POSITION SUMMARY
The Service Learning Coordinator leads Cristo Rey San José’s four-year, scaffolded Service and Justice Program. Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, Ignatian spirituality, and the Jesuit mission of faith and justice, the Service Learning Program forms students to be compassionate leaders committed to the Gospel call to serve others, especially the poor and marginalized.
In partnership with the Campus Minister and Religious Studies Department, the Service Learning Coordinator designs, implements, and evaluates meaningful service and immersion opportunities that deepen students’ understanding of social justice, encourage spiritual reflection, and inspire action.
This role also provides critical student supervision, communication, and administrative support to ensure smooth program delivery and strong relationships with students, families, faculty, and community partners.
The position reports to the Assistant Principal.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Learning Coordination & Program Leadership:

Lead the school’s four-year Service and Justice Program, aligned with grade-level themes:

Freshman Year – Poverty, Hunger, and Homelessness (10 hours)

Sophomore Year – Children, Community, and Environment (15 hours)

Junior Year – Social Justice and Advocacy (15 hours)
-
Senior Year – Advocacy & Sustained Service with 1 Organization (15 hours)
-
Collaborate with Religious Studies faculty to integrate service learning into curriculum through student reflections, classroom connections, and social justice discussions.

Develop and maintain systems for tracking student service hours, submissions, and reflections.
-
Provide guidance and coaching to students as they discern their service placements and areas of interest.
-
Ensure all service experiences meet program standards for safety, learning outcomes, and mission alignment.
-
Develop differentiated resources to support students with barriers to completing service outside of school hours.
-
Maintain relationships with local non-profit and service-oriented organizations.
-
Plan, coordinate, and communicate all service opportunities to students and teachers.
-
Monitor student service hours through the online database (MobileServe) and communicate updates to teachers.

Facilitate CRSJ Striving For Justice Day of Service.
Service and Faith Immersion Trips:
Student Formation and Reflection

Facilitate structured reflection activities to help students connect their service to faith, justice, and personal growth.

Partner with Campus Ministry on spiritual formation elements of service, including retreats, liturgies, and the daily Examen.

Support student leaders in designing and leading school wide service projects and justice-focused initiatives.

Help students understand the “why” behind service—linking personal experiences to the Gospel and the Jesuit value of being “men and women for and with others.”

Provide resources and support for faculty interested in incorporating service-related themes and justice issues into their courses.
Community Engagement & Events

Cultivate partnerships with local nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, parishes, and community service providers.

Coordinate annual giving drives and campaigns in collaboration with Campus Ministry (e.g., canned food drives, Christmas Drive, Lenten “We Create Change” campaign).

Organize schoolwide service events and community impact projects that bring students, staff, and families together in solidarity.

Represent Cristo Rey in local networks for youth service, social justice, and Jesuit mission work.
Communication & Collaboration

Maintain regular communication with students, families, faculty, and external partners regarding service opportunities, expectations, and student progress.

Provide timely updates to families about student participation and any issues that arise.

Work closely with the Assistant Principal, Religious Studies Department, and Campus Ministry team to ensure mission coherence and smooth logistics.

Support the school's commitment to interreligious dialogue and a welcoming environment for students of all faith traditions.
Student Supervision, Support and Instruction
-
Supervise students during after-school programs, service activities, and special events to ensure safety and engagement.
-
Address behavioral issues or conflicts in a pastoral and constructive manner, aligned with school values.

Teach one section of a course in area of competency (if needed)
Administrative Duties

Maintain accurate records of service hours and student compliance with requirements.

Manage program budgets, supplies, transportation, and logistics for service projects and events.

Plan and coordinate field trips or immersion experiences aligned with service goals.

Contribute to the design of summer programs or bridge programming that integrates service and justice themes.
QUALIFICATIONS
-
Practicing Roman Catholic, with a strong understanding of Catholic Social Teaching and Jesuit values.
-
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Education, or a related field preferred.

Experience working with high school students, particularly in urban or underserved communities.

Familiarity with Jesuit education and Ignatian spirituality; experience in a Jesuit school is strongly preferred.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
-
Demonstrated commitment to social justice, advocacy, and equity in education.
-
Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends.
-
Spanish proficiency preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
-
Stand, walk, and supervise students for extended periods.
-
Lift and move supplies for events or drives (up to 30 pounds). Travel locally for service site visits and partner engagement.

SALARY AND COMPENSATION
Range: $71,718 to $138,287, depending on education and years of experience. Full-time employees are eligible for:

Medical, dental, and vision coverage (100% for employees, 50% for dependents).
