Cal-ISBOA 2026-2028 Strategic Plan

Updated June 2025

The Cal-ISBOA 2026-2028 Strategic Plan sets an ambitious yet carefully considered direction for our organization to expand and deepen its impact while remaining true to our core principles and goals. These long-term goals and pillars of Cal-ISBOA include providing value to our members, fostering leadership for the profession of independent schools operations, enhancing member engagement, and cultivating sustainability in our organization’s structure, governance, and operations. Anchoring these high-level goals to our ground floor operations, our Board identified a set of key milestones we are striving to achieve by 2028 to demonstrate concrete progress within each pillar.

Adopting a new Strategic Plan has also given us the opportunity to update our Mission, Vision, and Values to better serve our community in the present moment.

We invite you to read the full details of the Strategic Plan here, and to peruse plan milestones for 2028 below.

This new Strategic Plan & Framework fills us with excitement and purpose on the Cal-ISBOA staff and Board. There is much to do to maximize our organization’s impact and reach our potential, and we count ourselves extremely fortunate to partner with our hardworking committees, our talented Board members, our generous sponsors, and our amazing member community to accomplish this critical work. We look forward to implementing our plans and, together, creating the future we envision for ourselves and our industry.

Cheers to our next three years!

Pillar: Value to Members

Cal-ISBOA’s professional development opportunities have expanded to
include well-attended regional events; our conferences offer more targeted
networking and content to better meet the needs of a diverse membership;
there is improved accessibility of Cal-ISBOA data and content; and CAL-ISBOA and sponsors find greater mutual value in partnering to
best serve the membership.

Pillar: Leadership for the Profession

CAL-ISBOA has: raised its visibility and position within the independent
school community as a trusted, valued resource; raised awareness of the
quality of the independent school educational experience; and established relationships with related professional organizations. The organization
facilitates opportunities for business professionals to strengthen
relationships within their schools (e.g., with HOS); and provides
more robust opportunities for business professional
certification and leadership development.

Pillar: Member Engagement

CAL-ISBOA has enhanced the member experience to provide more targeted networking and support; and increased awareness and usage of programs, products, and services. The organization is regularly engaging
non-member schools to introduce them to the
value of membership.

    Pillar: Structure, Governance, and Operations

CAL-ISBOA is an efficient, sustainable organization with stable, diverse revenue streams and effective use of technology. The organization has deepened members’ sense of belonging in the Association; and expanded volunteer/leader opportunities beyond the Board, to create a more robust leadership development pipeline.
