About Francis Parker School:
Parker is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1,330 students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world.” Parker has two campuses: one in Mission Hills (Lower School, Junior Kindergarten - Grade 5), and a second in Linda Vista (Middle and Upper School, Grades 6 - 12).
Job Description:
The JK-5 Daily Substitute Teacher position isresponsible for providing instruction and managing classroom environments (homeroom and special classes) for grades JK-5 in absence of the regular teacher. Daily assignments can include covering homeroom classes and special classes (music, art, etc.). This position functions as a full-time substitute teacher for the school year. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday: 7:45 am – 4:15 pm.
This Full-Time, benefit eligible position is a one-year assignment. Employees will have the opportunity to re-apply from year-to-year.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
● Teach lesson plans and instructions as directed by the absent teacher, or in with the Head of Integrative Programs if lesson plan is not provided
● Maintain a respectful and orderly classroom, and follow classroom and school procedures as directed by the School; Organize students for effective instruction
● Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff in accordance with School policies.
● Contribute to student learning, growth and advancement
● Demonstrate the ability to learn and convey a variety subject matters quickly, while adhering to School processes and protocols
● Maintain a positive mindset toward student learning, teaching practice, and professional development
● Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
● Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the Head of Integrative Programs as soon as is reasonably possible
● Leave notes for the regular teacher at the end of the teaching day
● Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards parents, students, and administrators
● Keep records on attendance, accidents and incidents
● Ensure the safety of students at all times
● Facilitate problem-solving
● Serve as a to students
● Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree required, preferably in Education; teaching credential preferred
● Minimum 3 years teaching experience with focus on reading, writing, math and science
● Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate for students at the respective grade level
● Strong of scope and sequence in order to keep the class moving forward during teacher absences
● Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals
● Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines
● Ability to manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment
● Ability to communicate effectively with students
● Strong computer skills
● Engaging, energetic, and patient when working with students in a school setting

Salary and Benefits:
Parker is committed to attracting and retaining the highest quality faculty and staff through a substantial compensation plan, including competitive salary, TIAA retirement benefits and full medical/dental coverage.
Salary: $72,000 per year
