Ceramics Teacher

    The Archer School for Girls is seeking a skilled and dedicated full-time ceramics teacher to join our esteemed faculty beginning August 2025. The position includes teaching five courses for students in grades 8-12 and serving as a grade-level mentor. We are looking for someone who is passionate about ceramics and committed to fostering a nurturing and dynamic learning environment for our students.

    Our Arts Department:

    ·         Teaches artistic skills and techniques

    ·         Teaches students to think creatively and make connections

    ·         Develops aesthetic awareness

    ·         Offers opportunities for students to engage with the community

    ·         Creates a venue for students’ creative expression

    ·         Empowers students to develop their voice and expression

    ·         Has a demonstrated commitment to supporting equity and inclusion

    Our Ideal Candidate:

    ·         Holds a BFA or MFA in a related field

    ·         Has taught for at least 2-3 years at the middle or secondary level

    ·         Has professional experience as an artist

    ·         Has knowledge of all aspects of the ceramics art form and lab, including expertise in wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques.

    ·         Has the flexibility to teach multiple levels in middle and high school

    ·         Works to effectively differentiate for diverse learners

    ·         Collaborates well with colleagues within planning teams

    ·         Routinely reflects on their lessons and seeks feedback

    ·         Plans to work with teachers across disciplines for interdisciplinary projects

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    ·         Teaching five courses

    ·         Instructing students in all levels of ceramics, grades 8-12

    ·         Serving as a mentor/advisor

    ·         Building and sustaining a warm and inclusive classroom culture

    ·         Designing instructional materials, activities and assessments that promote student learning and achievement 

    ·         Demonstrating safe and proper use of equipment and the safe handling of all wet and dry materials in the Ceramics Studio.

    ·         Maintaining all equipment available in the Ceramics Studio

    ·         Providing and supporting periodic maintenance and repairs of all equipment in the Ceramics Studio as necessary

    ·         Maintaining the Ceramics yearly budget, including ordering of supplies and updating of equipment

    ·         Performing duties associated with the development and review of curriculum and the assessment of learning, including, but not limited to, grading and required record keeping

    ·         Participating in departmental and school-wide functions as required

    ·         Commitment to ongoing professional development

    Salary range: $69,463 - $124,022 annually (depending on qualifications and experience)
