Education Technology Teacher Long Term Substitute
The John Thomas Dye School, an independent K-6 school located in Los Angeles, is currently seeking an Education Technology Long Term Substitute teacher. The John Thomas Dye School provides for its students a program of academic excellence, one both traditional and dynamic, with a commitment to family and community. The duration of the appointment will be from approximately mid-August through mid-December 2025.
JOB SUMMARY: The Educational Technology Teacher will deliver engaging technology instruction and collaborate with teachers to integrate digital tools that enhance student learning. This role supports the development of students’ tech skills while enriching classroom teaching through purposeful use of technology.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Educational Technology Teacher :

Teach technology classes for Grades K–6, with a focus on digital literacy, design thinking, and creative problem-solving
-
Design and deliver lessons that incorporate engineering, coding, and digital tools in age-appropriate and meaningful ways

Demonstrate the ability to model, deliver, and craft rich student-centered, innovative learning experiences around Technology, Engineering, and Design
-
Collaborate with grade-level teams to support technology use that enhances classroom curriculum
-
Model and facilitate student-centered, project-based learning experiences using a range of digital tools
-
Support students in developing responsible digital citizenship and foundational tech skills
-
Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging technologies and new potentials in educational technology that may be adopted as new and emerging instructional media, technologies, pedagogies and practices

Plan and implement an enriched, challenging and developmentally appropriate integrated K-6 technology curriculum including engineering and design thinking

Maintain a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
Collaborate within inSTED Team:
-
Work in partnership with co-teachers, modeling consistent effective teaching with technology, engagement, lesson plan design, use of technology, and online tools

Utilize best instructional practices, methods, materials, and technology

Hold students to high standards, allowing for differentiation among learning styles
-
Demonstrate a repertoire of effective and engaging instructional strategies that meet the needs of all students

Communicate on a regular basis with inSTED teachers to discuss student progress
-
Relate to and communicate well with students, parents, administration, and staff
-
Attend all department, curricular, and faculty meetings
Professional Responsibilities

Model professional and ethical standards and 5C’s behavior (Caring, Consideration, Common Sense, Cooperation, and Courtesy) when interacting with students, parents, and colleagues

Exercise excellent writing skills to communicate with colleagues, students, and families

Collaborate and communicate effectively with students, parents, administration, staff, and if applicable, outside professionals

Participate in the overall care of students through duties such as morning carpool check-in, recess supervision, and afternoon checkout
-
Participate in parent-teacher conferences, parent nights, open house, admissions events, and other events outside contractual hours at the request of the administration

Other duties as assigned by the Administrator
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, education, or relevant experience
-
Master’s Degree or Credential in Technology, STEAM/STEM, or education preferred
-
Minimum of 2-3 years of classroom teaching experience, preferably in an independent school setting
-
Strong understanding of International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards
-
Expert level of educational technology tools and 21st century learning understanding and application
-
Strong Google Apps for Education skills (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites, etc.).

Experience (or familiarity) with tools such as, but not limited to: 3D printing, Tynkercad, Makey-Makey, Kodable, Tynker, BeeBot, and MinecraftEDU

Strong understanding of academic, social, and emotional development of children

Technology literate and comfortable with acquiring new technology skills

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills

Strong organization and time-management skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

The faculty salary range is determined by years of experience and education with a range from $70,000 to $120,000 (salary will be pro-rated based on duration of employment).
