    Job Summary:

    The Director of Student Leadership and Activities works within the Department of Student Life (in coordination and collaboration with Personal Counselors and Campus Ministry) to call forth and develop qualities of leadership and personal character. Programs and activities are developed with the goal of strengthening self-awareness, belonging, emotional intelligence, spiritual growth, initiative, and the desire to engage in positive social change. The Department is committed to empowering young women to be courageous, active, and moral leaders in a diverse, dynamic, and global community in the tradition of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

    The Director of Student Leadership and Activities encourages authentic leadership and robust participation among students in school and community activities. Through the administration of the student leadership and activities programs, the Director strives to foster and create an atmosphere within the school which prioritizes student voice, school spirit, and student initiative.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Models positive leadership, exemplifying capacity to listen, enthusiasm, organization, and ethical and transparent decision making
    • Fosters a community spirit consistent with the Carondelet Mission and Core Values among students, staff, and parents/guardians, assuring respect for the uniqueness of the individual and development of the whole person
    • Maintains positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/guardians
    • Works with, trains, mentors, and supervises student leaders, helping them to develop essential and effective leadership skills
    • Ensures student voice is heard and included in leadership decisions through forums led by student leaders. Serves as a student advocate in communication with staff to ensure student perspective is represented
    • In collaboration with student leaders, develops a variety of activities to appeal to a broad range of students, including rallies, dances, clubs, and opportunities for service. This involves very small events to large proms off-site. All require significant event planning and management capacity
    • Effectively communicates to all of our constituents via a variety of channels
    • Thinks “outside of the box” and in innovative ways to help students grow and develop in relevant and meaningful ways through the leadership and activities program
    • Develops a variety of ways to recognize students for various accomplishments

    Technical/Management/Professional Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

    • Significant event planning and project management capacity
    • Develops and delivers leadership training and curriculum to students
    • Develops and delivers professional development for adults to enhance student capacity for authentic leadership opportunities
    • Oversees all aspects of student leadership and activities:
      • Recruits, supervises, and trains class moderators and meets with them to ensure quality class activities
      •  Oversees class meetings
      • Moderates the Associated Student Body (ASB) and coordinates Cougars in Action(CIA)
      • Manages the Associated Student Body (ASB) election process (campaign, speeches, posters, voting, run-offs), and interviews candidates for appointed positions
      • Coordinates Schoology groups for all student clubs and councils to ensure that minimum meeting requirements are being met and to help create programming initiatives
    • Works with the Facilities department to ensure smooth operations
    • Works with the Finance department, in conjunction with the Vice Principal of Mission and Community Development, in preparing and managing the budget for student activities to ensure exceptional and responsive programming
    • Assists the Vice-Principal of Mission and Community Development in creating the yearly school calendar and coordinates with De La Salle administration on the development of the calendar
    • Assists in developing outreach programs for elementary and middle school students, including summer programming
    • Compiles all permission forms and event contracts pertaining to student activities
    • Works with De La Salle Administration on developing and executing joint activities
    • Proficiency in digital platforms related to student life including:
      • Google Docs
      • Schoology
      • PowerSchool
      • Social Media

    Supervisor Expectations:

    • Caring, compassionate, and nonjudgmental student advocate
    • Serve as a liaison for students, faculty, and administration
    • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to the ever-changing needs of the school day, and remain flexible and patient as priorities shift

    Qualification Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree Required
    • 3-5 years’ experience in an educational environment preferred
    • Background in educational leadership a plus
