Overview
San Francisco Day School is seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Director of Talent Management. This is a multifaceted role, encompassing human resources, compensation management, compliance, and benefits administration. Additionally, this candidate will oversee talent acquisition, employee relations, and performance management. The Director of Talent Management reports to the CFOO and works in partnership with the Head of School and the Admin Council.

Position Responsibilities

Compensation, Benefits & Compliance
- With help from the School’s benefits broker, design and maintain a desirable, cost effective, and competitive employee benefits program, including retirement plans, flexible spending accounts, and health and welfare plans
- Coordinate the annual renewal of worker’s compensation program and related audit
- Work closely with TIAA and fiduciary consultants on 403(b) plan management, including, but not limited to, participating in the school’s retirement plan committee and managing the annual audit of the plan
- Manage quarterly reporting and submissions of the SFHCSO.
- Manage annual reporting, IE; EEO-1, CA PayData, DEFH CA, CMS-Medicare, 1096 filing, and 5500 filings
- Collaborate with the Controller & Payroll Manager to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing
- Organize and maintain accurate employee record files
- Respond to all CA EDD correspondence
- Assist the Business Office during the financial audit, retirement plan audit, and Worker’s Compensation with relevant data and document requests
- Drive SF Day’s participation in association benchmarking studies and develop data-driven compensation analyses that inform leadership and trustee decision making
Talent Acquisition & Retention
- Marshall the hiring process with input from Managers around hiring plans, job descriptions, salary requirements, job postings, resume reviews, and reference checking
- Draft offer letters and employment agreements for the Head of School to deliver to winning candidates
- Onboard new hires with appropriate documentation and conduct new hire orientation training
- Lead the annual employment agreement process ensuring agreements are updated and delivered timely, tracking final approval and signatures for each new annual agreement
- Track metrics associated with hiring and turnover, and prepare succinct reports to the Head of School and CFOO
Employee Relations
- Develop, coordinate and implement policies and training that contribute to a positive and compliant work environment while supporting the school's strategic initiatives
- Collaborate with SF Day’s management team to administer the school’s performance measurement process ensuring all documentation is collected and properly filed in employee’s personnel files
- Coach Managers/Supervisors on navigating employee relations issues and conflict resolution and provide relevant training opportunities to management
- Respond to all employee complaints in a timely manner, in compliance with relevant labor laws and SF DAY policies
- Coordinate with insurance broker and legal counsel, as needed, regarding assisting employees on leave of absence requests, disability insurance payments, and relevant notifications
- Periodically review personnel policies and procedures and oversee the annual maintenance and publication of the employee handbook
- Offboard separating employees and confirm that relevant notices are distributed timely (e.g. COBRA notices, exit interviews, etc.)
- Coordinate leave plans for employees in connection with PDL, FMLA, CFRA, etc.
HR Systems Management
- Maintain knowledge of HR best practices and seek to continuously improve related processes and systems
- Optimize effective use of the Paylocity system to drive efficient HR compliance
- Prepare and update a detailed employee roster for annual budgeting and benchmarking processes
- Coordinate data collection related to annual association benchmarking surveys
- Collaborate with the CFOO and Business Office team to apply a continuous improvement mindset to HR processes and systems development
Training & Other
- Coordinate and track annual mandatory training (CPR/First Aid, Mandated Reporter, Harassment, etc.)
- Collaborate with the Admin Council and department supervisors to develop and deliver developmental training for new and current supervisors around appropriate employee feedback, managing difficult employee situations, performance evaluations, etc.
- Lead or participate in additional projects as assigned by the CFOO or Head of School
- Attend evening and weekend events as required
Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of experience across a wide range of Human Resources responsibilities as described above
- Must be an excellent communicator (both written and oral) with strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
- Strong facilitation and documentation skills vis a vis employee relations
- Strong proficiency with HRIS systems (experience with Paylocity a big plus)
- Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Suite
- Highly organized with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a keen attention to detail
- Bachelor's degree required. Knowledge of HR/Commercial Law is desirable
- A SHRM-CP and/or PHR certification is highly desired
- Deep understanding of relevant employment laws/regulations and knowledge of trends and best practices in human capital management
- Demonstrated experience identifying, researching, and implementing human resource solutions in the workplace
- Ability to take responsibility for own work, establish trust, and be receptive to feedback
- Handle sensitive employment information and records confidentially and with a high duty of care
Physical Requirements
- Frequently required to talk and hear; walk, reach with hands and arms
- Able to sit and stand for long periods
- Ability to cross campus multiple times per day
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus
- Able to do extended periods of work at a computer
- Able to assist with events, which include lifting up to 35 lbs., and
- Able to work occasional evenings
