Position Title: Director of the Lucas Family Library

Reports To: Assistant Principal, Academics & Curriculum
FLSA Classification: Exempt
FTE (Full-Time Equivalent): 100%
Schedule of Duties: 11-Month
Salary: $105,000- $120,000 annual/salary
Position Purpose: The Director of the Lucas Family Library is the high school librarian responsible for total oversight of the library program, including supervision of other librarians and assistants. Responsible for fostering a vibrant learning conducive to thoughtful, deep independent & group inquiry.
Specific Expectations for Prep Faculty & Staff: In addition to regular teaching and duties, the following duties and responsibilities are expected as part of the faculty/staff workload: chaperoning, community responsibilities, professional development and trainings, classroom substitution, holding office hours, proctoring exams, admission interviews, and attendance of, or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events (e.g. Director's Day, open houses, Schools' annual auction), as required and directed by your supervisor. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. In the case you are required to work outside of your normal work schedule, non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.
Essential Functions
• Responsible for ensuring that the library program is consistent with the mission and educational philosophy of Sacred Heart education.
• Responsible for oversight of the Lucas Family Library budget.
• Responsible for maintaining an appropriate collection that balances all formats and supports 21st century skill development.
• Works with academic department heads in regards to the development of specific resources for their discipline.
• Maintains membership in the appropriate professional associations and networks.
• Support the appropriate use of instructional technology and lead the school in adoption of current library technology tools.
• Supervises library staff, including but not limited to scheduling, timecard oversight, mentoring and guidance and covers duties as necessary.
• Serves on school committees, as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• A Masters of Library and Information Science degree from an accredited program, concentration in school library media preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience as a head librarian, preferably at an independent school or combined relevant education and experience equaling that level of expertise.
• Demonstrated successful personnel management experience.
• A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based on it.
• Strong teaching ability; enjoy working with children and adolescents.
• Excellent verbal and written skills in English. Additional skills in Spanish or other languages are valued and preferred.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the SHS community.
• Obvious passion for library science and helping young people learn how to use books an online tools for research.
• Commitment to equity and inclusion.
• Excellent attendance and punctuality.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
• Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality. Must abide by school's current safety policies (ex: wearing masks, washing hands, etc.)
• Work in a highly active and sometimes stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts, primarily in a traditional (non-air-conditioned) library environment.
• Regularly alternate between sitting and standing over 8 hours and the ability to actively circulate about the library.
• Requires the ability to regularly and safely lift and shelve heavy textbooks many times over the course of an hour and the ability to occasionally lift up to 35 lbs. Requires occasional bending, sitting on floor, and extended reaching in order to shelve books. Requires manual dexterity to sort books, use the phone, the computer and other library equipment.
