Coaches at Pinewood inspire students to challenge themselves, both on and off the field, helping them build skills that prepare them for success in sports, academics, and beyond. Approximately 65% of our students participate in after school athletic teams.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Pinewood School is seeking a Director of Volleyball to lead, support, and manage all phases of the girls and boys volleyball programs (grades 4-12) from Mid-August through Mid-May for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Director of Volleyball will collaborate with athletic directors and coaches to help support and improve the overall boys and girls volleyball program experience. Ideal candidates should have extensive coaching experience at a competitive club, high school level or beyond and have connections in the local volleyball community. This role will report to the Athletic Directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Oversee 6+ competitive volleyball teams: Girls Volleyball (grades 4-6, grades 7-8, grades 9-12) and Boys Volleyball (grades 9-12)
● Manage the administration of the girls and boys volleyball program for grades 4-12.
● On-campus and some remote work from mid August through mid May.
● In-person and on the court with teams for training and games from early September - early May during competitive seasons, from 3-5pm Monday - Friday. Practices and games are at Pinewood middle and upper campuses and off site.
● Collaborate with coaches to help develop a comprehensive age-appropriate volleyball plan with progressive technical and tactical development for grades 4-12.
● Assist with interviewing/hiring head and assistant coaches for all 4-12 volleyball teams.
● Attend practices and/or games of each team you oversee during their season.
● Regular check-ins with all coaches.
● Post-season debrief & feedback session with all 4-12 grade head coaches.
● Work with coaches to provide year-round playing & training opportunities for all players.
● Work collaboratively and effectively with the athletic directors, athletic trainers, sports performance coaches, assistant coaches, facilities personnel, and others in the school.
● Help retain quality student-athletes currently in our boys and girls volleyball programs.
● Help identify outside student-athletes that would be a good fit for Pinewood.
● Be an excellent communicator with all parties involved.
● Help promote Pinewood School within the local volleyball community.

Year Round Calendar:
Mid August - Early November Girls high school volleyball season
Late February - Early May Boys high school varsity volleyball Season
Mid March- mid May Girls junior high & 4-6 volleyball
April - June Girls high school volleyball out of season opportunities
June - July Grades 4-12 volleyball camp/clinic/club opportunities
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
● Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.
● Ability to communicate and exchange information accurately and effectively with others in person and on the phone.
● Ability to work indoors and outdoors.
● Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Minimum of 5 years of experience playing and/or coaching volleyball at the high school or college level or at competitive volleyball clubs.
● Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with parents, faculty, staff, and students in a constructive manner - even under stressful conditions.
● Ability to create a positive learning environment for players.
● Available after school and in the evenings.
● Familiar with athletics bylaws and policies within the WBAL, CCS, & CIF.
● Ability to teach and exemplify the values of Pinewood School.
● Proficient in Google Workspace; experience using TeamSnap is a plus.
COMPENSATION:
The stipend range is $18,000-$25,000 for the season (August - May). The stipend will be based on one’s previous coaching experience and qualifications. Opportunities for directing volleyball camps and clinics are available and encouraged.
