Curtis is seeking a Communications Manager to join a team-oriented, inclusive, and professional learning community. Curtis School is a DK-6 co-ed elementary school whose mission is to develop, in every child, a sound mind in a sound body, governed by a compassionate heart.

The Communications Manager helps to advance the mission, program, and goals of the school. The ideal candidate is an experienced communications and marketing professional who can implement and manage a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy that supports enrollment, retention, engagement, and fundraising goals. They are a strong writer and thoughtful communicator who brings creativity and clarity to advancing the school’s brand and visibility across multiple constituencies and external audiences through a wide range of channels, including written publications and advertisements, social media, video, email, and print.
This position reports to the Director of Advancement.
Responsibilities:

Manage and execute the school’s communications and marketing efforts, serving as a lead writer and copy editor, and ensuring consistent and compelling brand expression across all platforms and audiences

Partner with the Director of Advancement to translate strategic priorities into effective communications that strengthen and elevate the school’s brand, informed by market awareness, trends, and constituent feedback

Manage, author, and edit the school’s primary publication(s) and annual report, serving as a lead writer and editor and overseeing content development, production timelines, and collaboration with internal partners and external vendors

Manage and maintain the school’s website, ensuring that content is up-to-date, accurate, visually consistent, and aligned with overall communications and brand strategy

Collaborate with admissions, advancement, faculty and staff recruitment, and other internal partners across departments, divisions, and programs to ensure consistent voice and visual identity and support coordinated messaging and storytelling through all communication channels

Regularly monitor and assess the reach and effectiveness of communications channels, including but not limited to the weekly newsletter, school-wide emails, admissions materials, advancement content, and other publications

Coordinate relationships with third-party vendors, including consultants, graphic designers, photographers, videographers, advertising partners, and printers; and collaborate on projects across a variety of media

Support crisis communications efforts as needed, working in partnership with school leadership

Monitor media coverage, Google alerts, and social media platforms to track visibility and flag relevant items for internal awareness
Job Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field

3-5 years of professional experience in communications and marketing, with demonstrated success implementing communications strategies across multiple channels; experience in an independent school environment preferred

Strong analytical skills and organizational skills, with the ability to use data and insights (e.g., engagement metrics, market trends, peer research, and independent school best practices) to inform communications decisions

An excellent visual and written storyteller who can identify compelling stories and bring them to life across digital, print, and video platforms

Collaborative and forward-thinking communicator with fluency across digital and print media, video content, brand identity, and marketing execution

Experience working with current communications technologies and platforms, including social media management tools; extensive experience with Blackbaud and proficiency with Google Workspace products and Google Analytics preferred
At Curtis School, salaries are one component of a compensation package that includes a generous benefit package, retirement matching, lunch credits, health & and life, AD & LTD insurance. The anticipated annual base salary range the school reasonably expects to pay candidates for this position is $99,000 to $114,000, depending on factors such as years of experience.
