Position Summary
Pilgrim School is seeking an After School Theatre Assistant Director to support the artistic, musical, and organizational success of our annual musical production. This year we are performing High School Musical Jr.. This role works closely with the Director and production team to guide students through the rehearsal and performance process, with a particular focus on musical instruction, choreography, and student support.
The Assistant Director plays a highly student-facing role, helping young performers develop confi dence, discipline, and joy in performance while contributing to a collaborative and well-run production. This position is ideal for an educator or theatre professional who enjoys working with students, values teamwork, and brings both creative and organizational strengths to a school-based performing arts program.
Major Areas of Responsibility
● Teach and rehearse songs with cast members, including leading vocal warm-ups and supporting vocal development
● Create and teach choreography appropriate to student age levels and production needs
● Assist with casting decisions and provide musical and movement-based input during auditions
● Support backstage operations during rehearsals and performances, including tech week
● Attend and actively participate in all required rehearsals, including technical rehearsals and performances
● Collaborate with the Director and production team to support student engagement, pacing, and overall production quality
● Provide creative input while maintaining alignment with the Director’s vision and the school’s expectations for student experience
● Any other duties assigned by the Director
Required Qualifi cations
● Experience working with students in a theatre, music, dance, or performance-based setting
● Ability to teach songs and choreography to students with varying levels of experience
● Strong classroom or rehearsal management skills and a student-centered approach
● Availability to attend all required rehearsals, tech rehearsals, and performances as scheduled

Preferred Background
● Background in musical theatre, vocal music, choreography, or dance
● Have worked on or performed in High School Musical
● Prior experience working in a school-based theatre or after-school program
● Experience supporting elementary, middle, and/or high school students in performance settings
Stipend and Hours
The stipend for this position is $7000. The Assistant Director should expect to work Monday through Friday from 3:30pm-6:00pm from the date of hire through the fi nal date of the Musical, April 24, 2026.
If your schedule does not allow for complete attendance, please still apply and we can determine whether your schedule will be able to accommodate our needs. Any adjusted schedule would necessitate an adjustment in compensation.
