    General Description

    The position of the First Grade Class Aide serves the purpose of providing additional support to the lead teacher of the First Grade.  The Aide helps the First Grade lead teacher and subject teachers so that they can deliver the Waldorf curriculum, and maintain a warm, nurturing and rhythmical learning environment.

    Duties

    • Meet once a week with the lead teacher for planning and review of work.

    • Assist subject teachers with the supervision of students during class. 

    • Help with transitions between activities, so that students remain focused.

    • Provide individual or small group support as directed by the lead teacher.

    • Supervise students during recess ensuring safety and inclusion.

    • Support the students’ development in a gentle, non-intrusive way, keeping interactions warm and professional.

    • Avoid casual conversations with students, and sharing personal information that does not benefit the students’ learning. 

    • Encourage healthy habits, self-care, and respectful interactions among students.


    Administrative and organizational support

    • Maintain tidiness and order in the classroom, including end of day tasks after school.

    • Prepare, track, and restore classroom supplies and equipment.

    • Prepare and organize seasonal displays as directed by the lead teacher. 


    Collaboration and professional conduct

    • Defer to the lead teacher’s authority. This is essential for a collaborative and effective classroom environment. 

    • Communicate observations and feedback about students progress and behavior to the lead teacher. 

    • Direct inquiries from parents, about classroom/student life, to lead teachers. 

    • Use discretion and confidentiality in communication.


    Schedule

    Up to six hours daily, thirty per week.  Exact schedule will be arranged with the Class Teacher.  Additional hours to be arranged in advance if needed. If possible, the Aide should attend the Grade School Faculty meeting on Thursdays from 2:15 to 3:30 which is compensated at a separate rate.  


    Qualifications

    • Waldorf Teacher Training completed or in process

    • Enthusiasm and flexibility

    • Professional personal presentation


    Compensation  

    $29.00 per hour

    This is a part-time, non-exempt, hourly position. Benefits include San Francisco Sick Paid Sick Leave and San Francisco Health Care Ordinance.  This position does not continue through the Summer Break.


    Physical Requirements and Work Environment

    • Be able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs.

    • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold

    • Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours
