Job Summary
The Social Studies department at Marymount High School strives to create classrooms that foster diverse and inclusive viewpoints, where all students feel a sense of equal belonging. Candidates should be able to work collaboratively to develop and implement culturally responsive pedagogy. The Social Studies Teacher must have experience in developing and implementing a curriculum that is skills-based and scaffolds historical and analytical writing. The ideal candidate should have experience in teaching world history and knowledge of the College Board’s Advanced Placement historical thinking skills. Successful candidates will provide a challenging curriculum (with the guidance of the department chair) that aligns with Marymount High School’s mission and standards.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
● Demonstrates mastery of Social Studies, instructional skills, and resource materials for course(s) taught.
● Creates lesson plans, aligned with departmental standards.
● Maintains a safe, organized classroom, which supports students’ independent learning, collaboration, critical thinking skills, and choice.
● Utilizes a variety of effective instructional and management techniques.
● Provides a variety of assessments and uses assessments for planning and instruction.
● Monitors and maintains a positive classroom environment that supports the school-wide behavior expectations in which students are engaged and incorporates mutual respect while providing cooperative learning opportunities.
● Uses available technology/instructional media to enhance learning experiences.
● Establishes and maintains appropriate relationships with students, parents, staff, and
community members by communicating in a tactful, courteous, and confidential manner.
● Appropriately communicates and interacts with other professional staff in academic
planning and school committee work.
● Attends and participates in staff meetings and extra-curricular/school-related activities and committees.
● Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional growth and works with
administrators to formulate and complete professional development plans.
● Maintains a professional appearance and demonstrates behavior that is conscientious and responsible.
● Serve as a grade-level advisor.
Qualifications
● Master’s Degree in a related field preferred.
● Minimum of three (3) years of previous teaching experience at the high school level, which emphasizes world history and United States History.
● Experience integrating technology into the Social Studies classroom.
● Experience with Google apps (Drive, Classroom, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
● Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching high school-level psychology (preferred but not required).
● Familiarity with the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Psychology curriculum, including AP skills and rubrics (preferred but not required).
