Grade School Math Specialist (part-time)

    This is a part-time, hourly position. 

    OVERVIEW

    The Grade School Math Skills Teacher works in the Educational Support Program at the San Francisco Waldorf Grade School with small pull out classes in Grades 4 – 8 to solidify their math skills.

    The San Francisco Waldorf School (SFWS) was founded in 1979 and serves more than 450 students across a parent-child program, a nursery program, kindergarten, and the first through twelfth grades. The grade school campus is in the Pacific Heights neighborhood and is easily accessible via Muni lines.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience working with middle-school students in an academic environment.
    • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) preferably in math
    • Experience working with children with (ADD, ADHD, Dyscalculia, etc) who may find math challenging
    • Patience, compassion, and empathy in dealing with students.
    • Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly with relevant examples
    • Excellent organization and time management skills
    • Specialized math training such as in Making Math Real

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

         Waldorf teacher certification
          Related teaching experience in a Waldorf school preferred
         Flexible schedule

    This is a part-time hourly position with an expected commitment of no more than 6 hours per week of teaching time and meetings. The schedule will be one period for each grade level, totaling 5 periods (hours).

    This position carries no benefits other than those available through the San Francisco City Ordinances. 

    Benefits & Compensation

    Pay Rate: $60/hr

    This is a part-time, hourly position. This position carries no benefits other than those available through the San Francisco City Ordinances. This position does not continue through the Summer Break.

    Physical Requirements and Work Environment

    • Be able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs.
    • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold
    • Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours

    FLSA Classification: Not exempt from overtime; hourly

    Reports to: Director of Student Services

    Hired by: Grade School Director
