Viewpoint School is currently seeking an accounting clerk. The accounting clerk is an essential member of Viewpoint School’s accounting team, responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting the business office staff. Their work lays the foundation for the organization’s financial integrity, supporting both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Receivable and Payable: Managing incoming and outgoing payments, generating purchase requests, following up on overdue accounts, and processing bills from vendors.
- Expense Tracking: Monitoring and recording company expenditures, ensuring all expenses are properly authorized and categorized.
- Maintaining Financial Records: Organizing and storing financial documentation such as receipts, invoices, and statements in accordance with legal requirements and company policies.
- Recording Financial Transactions: Entering daily transactions into our accounting systems (e.g., Ramp and SchoolAdmin / Finaliste) with the supporting back-up (e.g., receipts and invoices).
- Supporting Audits: Assisting with internal and external audits by providing documentation and clarifying entries in the company’s books.
- Tax Preparation Assistance: Gathering and preparing necessary documentation for tax filings.
- Petty Cash Management: Managing small cash funds used for minor business expenses, including recording transactions and reconciling cash balances.
- Budget Assistance: Assisting management in creating budgets by providing necessary financial data and historical trends.
- Compliance: Ensuring the company’s books meet legal, regulatory, and internal standards at all times.
- Bank Reconciliation: Comparing and reconciling bank statements with company financial records to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
- Expense Analysis: Analyzing expenses, identifying trends, and recommending cost-control measures are important aspects of the accounting clerk’s role.
- Process Improvement: Identifying opportunities to enhance accounting processes and controls and recommending best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Attention to Detail: Accounting clerks must be precise and accurate in their work, as small errors can have significant consequences.
- Analytical Thinking: The ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and provide recommendations is crucial.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Blackbaud, SchoolAdmin/Finalsite, and Ramp), and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office applications.
- Communication Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills are necessary to explain financial information to non-accounting colleagues and to collaborate with team members.
- Time Management: The ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ethical Judgment and Integrity: Accounting clerks deal with sensitive financial information and must adhere to high ethical standards and confidentiality requirements.
- Problem-Solving Skills: They must be able to troubleshoot issues, investigate discrepancies, and find effective solutions.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred): A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Certifications (Preferred): CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CMA (Certified Management Accountant), or similar credentials can enhance job prospects and career development.
Compensation: $30.00 per hour
