    The John Thomas Dye School, an independent K-6 school located in Los Angeles, is currently seeking a Controller/Payroll & Benefits Manager.     JOB SUMMARY:  The Controller/Payroll & Benefits Manager is responsible for the management of core operational accounting functions with a focus on accounts payable, treasury management, payroll management, benefits administration, vendor agreement  management, and insurance compliance. This position supports the Business Office and Human Resource functions to ensure accurate and timely execution of financial obligations and personnel-related financial transactions.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including coding, disbursements, reconciliations, digital document software, AP inquiries, and 1099 reporting.

    • Ensure compliance with sales tax regulations and proper documentation of vendors (e.g., W-9 forms).

    • Manage the full payroll cycle, ensuring accurate and timely semi-monthly processing, reconciliation, and journal entries. Coordinate with the Director of Operations (DOO)  for internal controls and oversight.

    • Manage employee benefits enrollments, billing/reconciliations, deductions, payments, and coordination with DOO during open enrollment and ongoing support.

    • Track and manage employee timekeeping and PTO balances.

    • Maintain and update the HRIS/payroll database in partnership with DOO and DOF.

    • Coordinate and maintain vendor agreements and insurance certificates, and ensure compliance with coverage requirements.

    • Support audits and compliance requirements.

    • Support the monthly close process as guided by the Finance Manager and DOF. 

    • Maintain cash receipts and treasury functions for all bank accounts

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Professional experience in a similar financial role; experience in education, independent schools, or non-profits is preferred. 5+ years of senior accounting experience required

    • A degree or certification in accounting or finance is preferred.

    • Proficiency with dual-entry accounting software platforms.

    • Demonstrated proficiency in payroll administration and processing.

    • Proficiency in the following software: MacOS, Blackbaud, ADP, Google Workspace/Microsoft Office, and Adobe.

    • Intermediate to advanced spreadsheet skills required (Google Sheets and Excel).

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.

    • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.

    • Strong time management skills and the ability to navigate conflicting priorities effectively.

    • Critical thinking skills with attention to detail.

    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

    The salary range is determined by years of experience and education with a range from $85,000 - $125,00.
