    Position Summary


    Position Title: Music & Movement Teacher: Preschool & Kindergarten (Part-Time)


    Department: P-8


    Reports To: Principal of P-8


    FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt


    FTE (Full-Time Equivalent): 25%


    Schedule of Duties: 10-Month


    Salary: $40.00- $82.00 hourly as placed on SHS Pay Scale depending on level of education and experience


    Position Purpose: Part-time position teaching basic music/movement to upper preschool and kindergarten students.


    Specific Expectations for P-8 Faculty: In addition to regular teaching responsibilities—such as curriculum planning, class preparation, grade reporting, report card narratives, parent-teacher conferences, supervision duties, classroom substitution, advisory, elective teaching, office hours, and participation in class trips—P-8 faculty are expected to contribute to the broader school community and support program growth. This includes building a strong sense of community for students, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, engaging in professional development and training opportunities, and attending required meetings and events, such as Director's Days, Open Houses, accreditation meetings, and class overnight trips, as directed by your supervisor. If staff are required to work outside of regular work schedule, permission to work outside of the regular work schedule is required; non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.


    Essential Functions


    • Responsible for teaching music and movement to preschool/kindergarten students on a weekly basis.

    • Supports and when requested, provides music in regular and special performances for school program, Masses and prayer services, community activities, concerts, and festivals.

    • Works with department head in regards to planning, evaluating, and revising curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.

    • Uses effective class management techniques to insure effective learning.


    Qualifications


    • BA degree and 5 years of experience at pre/lower school level, or experience equal to it, required. Teaching credential and experience in an independent school and/or Catholic schools or with the Montessori Method strongly preferred.

    • Demonstrated ability to develop and teach a curriculum in conjunction with the Fine Arts Department.

    • Strong experience with all aspects of production including but not limited to selecting appropriate material and inspiring budding talent.

    • Collaborative spirit and collegial nature to support a positive working relationship with teachers.

    • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills; additional skills in Spanish are valued and preferred.

    • Obvious passion for music and movement. Strong teaching ability; enjoy working with young children.

    • Commitment to equity and inclusion.

    • Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs.

    • A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based on it.


    Physical Requirements and Work Environment


    • Works in an often highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.

    • Able to bend, sit on the floor, reach, and move freely around the classroom

    • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.

    • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.

    • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold typical to the Mid-Peninsula in the Bay Area.

    • Be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. and regularly travel safely and comfortably over a 63 acre campus

    • Available and willing to attend and work some evenings/weekends and on occasional overnight trips.

    • Abide by school's current safety policies (ex: wearing masks, washing hands, etc.)
