    Summer Camp Director (Part-Time)

    The Buckley School, Los Angeles’ oldest K-12 all-gender learning institution, has an opening for a Summer Camp Director. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of The Buckley School’s Summer Camp and its operations. Half-day or whole-day programs for Lower School and Middle School students will be offered in arts, crafts, athletics, and non-academic subjects.

    Responsibilities include supervising a staff consisting of a nurse, lead teachers, and assistants, and ensuring the entire camp and each program meets the standards of quality, safety, and education expected at The Buckley School.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Organizing camps for the summer of 2024
    • Working with the Lower and Middle School Principals and the business office on all administrative and policy questions
    • Recruiting summer camp teachers
    • Promoting and growing the summer camp program
    • Oversight of student enrollment
    • Day-to-day administration of the program during the summer

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    • Serving as the main point of contact for the summer camp, responding to questions and concerns from parents and campers
    • Working with lead teachers, lead teachers’ assistants, and school personnel to ensure the smooth operation of camp activities
    • Interviewing and providing input on the selection of assistants to the teachers
    • Tracking and maintaining enrollment, attendance, and emergency contact records
    • Observing camp programs
    • Building or strengthening positive relationships between the school, the parents, and the campers
    • Maintaining safety and health policies and procedures at all times including conducting fire and earthquake drills
    • Ensuring appropriate behavior of campers and staff to avoid the risk of accidents
    • Maintaining awareness of campers’ physical well-being
    • Reporting all incidents in a thorough and timely manner with necessary documentation.
    • Being present at all drop-off and pick-up periods and ensuring proper coverage during these periods as well as during lunch
    • Obtaining substitutes as needed
    • Submitting payroll records to the payroll office
    • Coordinating efforts such as fire and earthquake drills and standards of conduct with the director of the academic summer school
    • Delivering messages to campers as needed

    The camp will run from June 17 through July 26 with June 19th and July 4th off. Camp hours will be 8:00-4:00 PM.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Supervisory and administrative experience

    ● General knowledge of diverse sports activities

    ● Flexibility to occasionally work long hours, including attendance at weekend and evening events

    ● Excellent communication skills in person, in writing by phone, and through electronic means (such as zoom)

    COMPENSATION

    $40.00 per hour

    The base salary is separate from fringe benefits, such as retirement contributions, daily lunch, on-site parking, contributions to medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D plans, our generous time off policy, or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Our pay ranges are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at The Buckley School, your actual base salary will be determined by your education and experience.
