    Founded in 1909 and affiliated with the Episcopal Church, The Bishop’s School is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory day school for 800 students in grades six through twelve located on a historic campus in the heart of La Jolla, just 10 miles north of downtown San Diego.     Anticipated Annualized Base Compensation Based  on Experience: $75,070 - $140,976 per annum

    Position Summary Description:  

    The Bishop’s School seeks a full-time Spanish teacher for the fall 2024 semester beginning in August 2024 and ending in January 2025. Candidates will be asked to teach courses to students in middle school (grades 6-8) based on departmental need. The World Languages Department seeks candidates who are enthusiastic about collaborating on teams, designing learner-centered experiences in the classroom, and preparing students for an ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse world through language learning. By making the unfamiliar world familiar and by emphasizing the common humanity among diverse peoples, the department strives to prepare students for effective global citizenship and service to the larger community. In addition to teaching a full load of classes, faculty responsibilities include serving as an advisor to students and extended-day office hours for additional student support.

     

    An Ideal Candidate Will Have

    • A bachelor’s degree is required with native or near-native fluency in Spanish; 
    • A master's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field is preferred;
    • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience is expected, as is some preparation in Spanish and Latin American literature and culture ;
    • Interest in supporting current co-curricular programs is also highly desirable; 
    • An unequivocal passion for working with adolescents and supporting them in all facets of their lives;
    • Demonstrated commitment and competency in diversity, equity, inclusion and justice;
    • Ability to integrate technology into instruction;
    • Eagerness to collaborate with other department members in creating meaningful, relevant, learner-centered classroom experiences;
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community;
    • Strong work ethic, as well as time management, verbal, written language, and interpersonal skills;
    • Irrespective of own religious orientation, the ability to support the School’s mission and values as a school founded in the Episcopal tradition;
    • Commitment to well-being as the foundation for growth.
