Upper School Mental Health & Wellness Counselor (2024-2025)

    Menlo School seeks a licensed Mental Health & Wellness Counselor for our Upper School (grades 9-12). Menlo is dedicated to promoting mental well-being and integrating healthy habits within our community.     Primary Responsibilities:

    • Provide confidential individual and group counseling to students, including social-emotional support, educational guidance, mediation, crisis services, and co-curricular coordination.

    • Work collaboratively with two additional counselors to support the mental health needs of the Upper School student body; align efforts with the Middle School counselor as needed and ensure awareness of the 6-12th grade trajectory.

    • Be the Counseling Team faculty lead on various parent education and/or support committees aimed at partnership and community cohesion (Menlo 9th Grade Parent Groups, Bi-Annual Parent Education Conference, Menlo Cares Program).

    • Share our dedication to cultivating an ever more heterogeneous and inclusive community while committing to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging.

    • Serve as a member of the Student Support Team to provide comprehensive, tiered case management support for students with social-emotional and/or academic challenges.

    • Collaborate with the Upper School Assistant Director and the Student Life team to integrate social-emotional/values-based curricula in classroom settings or on as needed basis with faculty.

    • Provide and organize faculty and family education sessions on mental health/wellness related topics.

    • Help students resolve teacher and classroom concerns and assist students in developing self advocacy and problem solving skills.

    • Consult with and assist teachers and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students navigate academic, social, and emotional challenges.

    • Maintain local partnerships with therapists, community partners, and mental health organizations.

    • Participate weekly as an advocate in Menlo’s comprehensive Advocacy programming. 

    • May teach or co-teach a 9th grade seminar class.

    • Serve as a Club (co)advisor in one or more of Menlo’s clubs/affinity groups.

    Required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include but are not limited to:

    • A Master’s or Doctoral degree in counseling, school psychology, clinical psychology, or school social work (LMFT, LCSW, MSW, PPS, or certified school/clinical psychologist) required.

    • 3-5 years prior school counseling experience at the high school level or equivalent strongly preferred.

    • Experience with individual and group counseling, educational programming, and crisis management.

    • Knowledge and experience providing culturally responsive treatment and the desire to meaningfully improve upon the experience of historically underserved students in independent school contexts.

    • Genuine love of high school-age children and a desire to work with all types of learners.

    • Being a positive and contributing member to our campus community as a whole, inside and outside of the counseling office.

    • Extensive knowledge of ethical and legal considerations related to counseling practices.

    • Exceptional writing, editing, and oral communication skills and proficiency in communicating and engaging effectively with a wide range of constituencies.

    • Candidates must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

    • Proficient in use of technology.

    • A desire to work in a highly collaborative environment.

    Pay range:


    In the spirit of pay transparency we share the base salary range for this position for the 2024-2025 academic year. The full pay range, which encompasses all experience levels is $100,000 - $150,000 per year. Within this broad range, we pay each employee in accordance with what could be reasonably expected based on an individual's experience level. Base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits, retirement plan employer contributions or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at Menlo are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at Menlo School, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, job level, part-time status and number of months of work per academic year. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the generous range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical for Menlo School in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
