Summer School Teachers Assistant

    Summer at Saint Francis in Mountain View, California invites applications for High School Teachers Assistant (TA) positions beginning Summer 2024. A TA is the primary assistant to the teacher in the classroom, helping with administrative and curricular needs. We are particularly looking for those who are interested in teaching as a profession, who enjoy tutoring high school age students, and who want to collaborate with instructors by grading exams and providing administrative assistance support. Subjects include math and science. Working at Summer at Saint Francis also requires a commitment to the mission and values of Saint Francis High School.

    Employment for High School TA positions is June 10-July 18, 2024 with June 19 and July 4 as holidays. Hours are 8:00am to 12:30pm with preferred availability for tutoring between 12:45-2:45pm. Applicants should be available for the entire duration of the Summer High School session. Hourly compensation is $20.75/hr.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assisting teachers with most needs in the classroom
    • Helping check homework, answer questions
    • Tutoring students in need after school
    • Proctoring exams and supervision of the classroom during break periods
    • Grading exams and homework assignments
    • Assisting with the general record keeping for the course, including use of Schoology gradebook
    • Helping with classroom management and setup, photocopies, lab setup, etc.
    • Assisting with the editing and writing of course curriculum

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Graduating Saint Francis Senior or Saint Francis Alum
    • Strong knowledge of course material and content in the subject area of math or science
    • Experience as a TA in high school or college in math or science
    • Experience with setting up and breaking down labs
    • Experience teaching or tutoring math or science 
    • Ability to work with high school students in an academic setting
    • Desire to be in the field of education
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong organizational and computer skills
    • An understanding of the overarching goals of our summer academic programs

    SKILLS

    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
    • Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
    • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology for classroom instruction and student learning
    • Ability to work collaboratively
    • Ability to lift storage bins over 20 lbs
