    Associate Director of Development

    Starting August 2024

    The Position

    The Nueva School is looking for an energetic, entrepreneurial-minded fundraiser to join a highly-motivated and effective development team as the Associate Director of Development. Having recently completed a $125 million hybrid endowment and capital campaign, and raising $6 million in annual giving, Nueva is fortunate to have a committed, engaged community that is deeply invested in the school’s mission to serve gifted learners.

    The ideal candidate will be inspired by Nueva’s learn by doing, learn by caring values, and be passionate about independent school education. This individual should be a strategic, data-driven thinker who is excited to wonder, “how can we amplify this program?” 

    The Associate Director of Development will work closely with the Director of Development to create and refine development messaging, articulate vision, grow philanthropic partnerships and increase engagement from all constituents.

    This position will have specific and measurable annual giving goals, and the candidate needs to be comfortable helping to identify, cultivate, and solicit (or arrange for the solicitation of) five- and six-figure gifts for Nueva’s burgeoning major gifts programming. The ability to develop and steward authentic relationships with a multitude of community members, including parents, faculty and staff, volunteers, alumni, and others will be essential for success in this role.

    Annual Giving

    ·       Oversee the Nueva Fund and the Count-me-In Marketplace, as well as any other annual giving opportunities that arise. Work with the Director of Alumni and Community Engagement on the Nueva Cup Golf Tournament and any other development-focused events/activities.

    ·       Continue the growth and success of the annual giving by implementing year-round strategies that will increase revenue and engagement from each constituency

    ·       Mentor and oversee the work of the Associate Director of Annual Giving

    ·       Create annual giving communications, including the design, development and distribution of print and electronic collateral materials

    ·       Maintain the annual giving calendar, ensuring that it is coordinated with Development and school calendars

    ·       Recruit and collaborate with a multitude of volunteers in various capacities

    ·       Maintain collaborative relationship with the Business Office to reconcile all gifts and reporting

    The Nueva Fund (95% of annual giving goal)

    ·       Work closely with the Director of Development and members of the Development team to design the strategy, theme/messaging, and timeline for a highly segmented and personalized annual fund program

    ·       Manage the creation of Nueva Fund appeals across all constituencies; work with external vendors and internal staff to ensure timely distribution of materials

    ·       Recruit, guide, train and support staff and volunteer leaders and solicitors to ensure timely and successful execution of the Nueva Fund

    ·       Develop specific cultivation plans, solicitation strategies, and stewardship efforts to provide support and up-to-date information and reporting to solicitors

    ·       Personally manage an active portfolio of assigned prospects, specifically starting with the Leadership Circle ($7,500+)

    ·       Evaluate results and support the Director of Development in setting data-informed goals, as well as timely updates throughout the year and ability to make creative, nimble adjustments as needed

    ·       Oversee the Associate Director of Annual Giving in the planning of all events related to the Nueva Fund, including kickoff events, phone-a-thons, giving days, solicitor training sessions, thank you events, end-of-year celebrations, and small informational donor events; attend and provide support at all Development events as needed

    ·       Collaborate with Director of Alumni and Community Engagement to coordinate fundraising efforts for alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents

    Count-Me-In Marketplace (CMIM) (5% of annual giving goal)

    ·       Oversee the Associate Director of Annual Giving in the annual spring CMIM, an online sale of count-me-in events to raise money for financial assistance

    ·       Support recruitment of volunteer leaders and committee members

    ·       Review past CMIM results and brainstorm events based on successful sales

    ·       Oversee the review and possible rebranding of the CMIM logo in 24-25

    Major Giving

    ·       Assist Director of Development with creating and implementing a plan for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects and donors

    ·       Brainstorm meeting/engagement opportunities and provide support to encourage solicitors to be proactive in outreach and scheduling

    ·       Connect annual giving research and stewardship with major giving opportunities

    ·       Build and manage a personal portfolio of active major donor prospects

    ·       Aid in conceptualizing and creating opportunities and events for major donor cultivation and stewardship

    ·       Prepare, update and organize customized materials, proposals, and collateral for major donor and foundation prospects

    ·       Follow up after major donor meetings ensuring that the donor is acknowledged appropriately, receives any materials or follow up action needed

    ·       Ensure that records of meetings are updated and filed and that follow up actions are noted so they can be acted on in the future

    Other

    ·       Be an active part of the life of the school by participating in day-to-day activities such as drop-off and lunch duties, school plays, athletics, faculty/staff meetings, classroom visits, etc.

    ·       Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all school and division initiatives to inform and inspire philanthropic support

    ·       Assist with reports, donor research and strategic support for capital campaigns as needed

    ·       Manage and mentor the Associate Director of Annual Giving

    ·       Support the Associate Director of Annual Giving in the creation and execution of the annual report

    ·       Support Director of Development with presentations, board reports, materials and/or other needs as they emerge

    ·       Manage the development office budget and expense reports for the annual fund and CMI Marketplace with the Director of Development and the Business Office

    ·       Work with the Manager of Development Data and Reporting to ensure that each gift is credited and acknowledged appropriately

    Compensation

    The full-time equivalent salary range for this position is $125,000 - $160,000. The starting salary is based upon, but not limited to, several factors that include type and years of experience, education level, and expertise.
