Spanish Full-Time Teaching Position

The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a full-time Spanish teacher beginning in August of 2024. This position entails teaching four sections of Spanish (level to be determined). Qualifications and desired characteristics:

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in Spanish. A teaching credential is not required
• Native or near-native fluency in the language
• Experience teaching Spanish at either the high school or college level is required
• Interest in taking on administrative responsibilities for the World Languages department preferred
• Commitment to working with high school students outside of the classroom as part of our advising and other programs
• Demonstrated cultural competence
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Patience, flexibility, and a good sense of humor

A full-time teaching position involves teaching 4 sections of about 16 students in each. Applicants must be willing and able to teach across the Spanish curriculum (levels 1 through 4) and to introduce students to the cultures of Latin America and Spain. The goals of the Spanish program are to create full-immersion classrooms where students learn the language through activities designed to practice the different modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational) and to promote cultural competence. Our Spanish and other World Language teachers work closely with one another, honing and reshaping curriculum, assessments, and assignments.

Faculty at College Prep are compensated according to a step scale based on years of experience that ranges from $72,500 for teachers with no prior relevant experience to $143,700 for teachers with 44 years of prior experience.
