    REPORTS TO: Head Athletic Trainer

    PAY: $65,000 to $72,000 DOE

    Job Summary: Bishop O’Dowd High School seeks excellent candidates for a high school Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full-time 10 month position that reports to the Head Athletic Trainer on a team of 2 in O’Dowd’s Athletic Department that serves approximately 750 student-athletes. The successful candidate will not only have the qualifications, but also be aligned with O’Dowd’s mission and charism.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Two years of experience, post certification

    • Master’s degree preferred

    • Must be BOC certified, NPI Number Required

    A successful candidate will:

    • Have knowledge about a large range of medical issues. Assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals are necessary.

    • Think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.

    • Demonstrate attention to detail for specifics and clarity in tracking and documenting injury and progress.

    • Provide inquiry-based strategies to consistently assess and innovate program and workflow

    • Use appropriate technology to support team effectiveness and community engagement, including use of data to enhance and adjust practices.

    • Demonstrate a drive to learn ways to improve professional skills and implement best practices. This includes participating in ongoing professional development, including maintaining professional credentials.

    • Communicate effectively and patiently in high stress/pressure situations when talking to student-athletes, medical professionals, staff, and families.

    • Maintain restorative, collaborative dialogue with colleagues, students, parents, and the greater O’Dowd community.

    • Demonstrate growth mindset, positive attitude, flexibility, and passion for working with high school athletes and families.

    • Be a self-aware, reflective practitioner who fosters a safe, inclusive, equitable, and joyful working environment, including differentiating access for diverse community members.

    • Support the Catholic mission and charism of the school.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide athletic training coverage at interscholastic athletic events as identified by the Head Athletic Trainer.

    • Be present during daily hours of operation for the athletic training facility.

    • Management of the Student Athletic Training Interns

    • Provide input and coverage at venues determined by the Head Athletic Trainer and execute condition specific emergency action plans.

    • Maintain adequate medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures through the use of sportsware.

    • Implementation and adherence to concussion protocols as defined by the California Interscholastic Federation and Bishop O’Dowd High School. This includes baseline testing, referrals, monitoring signs and symptoms, and return-to-play protocols.

    • Comply with any and all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by the school systems regulations, and outlined in the Athletic Injury Management section of the school’s athletic training program policies and procedures manual.

    • Collaboration with Physical Therapists, Medical Doctors, Specialists and other health care providers to provide the most appropriate and effective treatment as well as referrals to said professionals when appropriate and necessary.

    • Communication with coaches, parents, and other staff when necessary including, but not limited to injury status, injury reports, and return-to-play progressions.

    • Application of appropriate taping, bracing, and padding for practices and competitions.

    • Application of appropriate therapeutic modalities to athletic injuries.

    • Implementation of appropriate rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.

    • Provision and maintenance of a medical kit for each in-season team. Communication with coaches will be necessary to maintain an accurate status of the supplies in each kit.

    • Verification of athletic eligibility through Final Forms by ensuring appropriate documentation has been submitted for each student-athlete, including a pre-participation physical document. Appropriate communication with parents and student-athletes about any missing or inadequate paperwork will be necessary.

    • Management of appropriate supporting documents including, but not limited to doctor’s notes and return-to-play progression documentation.

    • Maintenance of HIPAA and OSHA standards.

    • Completion of Report of Accident for the Diocese of Oakland when appropriate and necessary.

    • Implementation of Emergency Protocols including use of CPR, AED, and basic first aid when necessary. This includes education of coaches and other school officials.

    • Education of student-athletes, coaches, parents, and other school officials regarding injuries, nutrition, concussions, return-to-play protocols, and more.

    • Maintenance of Safe Sports School standards set forth by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

    • Maintenance of good standing with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification by completing appropriate continuing education units (CEU’s).

    • Maintenance of personal liability insurance.

    • Maintenance and communication with student-athletes and head coaches regarding pre-participation examination expiration dates via Final Forms.

    • Assistant Athletic Trainer is the primary Athletic Trainer for Varsity Football including coverage of all home and away games.

    • Assisting Head Athletic Trainer with any duties not listed here and deemed necessary by Head Athletic Trainer and/or Athletic Directors.

    • Travel will vary by sport and facility availability. Typically, travel happens for the varsity football team  as well as playoffs as the home game schedule allows.

    • Work is of medium demand for physical requirements. Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects. Medium strength is required to position patients for examination. May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table. Must be able to work in outdoor conditions.
