Lead Childcare Teacher - In Training

    The Bishop’s School Childcare Center is actively searching for a Lead Childcare Teacher In Training (LCTIT). This position will serve as a Childcare Teacher while training to become a Lead Teacher within 3-6 months pending qualifications and successful completion of training. 

    The Lead Childcare Teacher In Training (LCTIT) is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher and Childcare Director in managing and directing the operations and activities of the Childcare Center of The Bishop’s School in accordance with the School’s policies and procedures, as well as field concepts, practices and procedures including California State laws and regulations governing Child Care Centers in the absence of the Director of Childcare Services.  The LCTIT assists the Lead Childcare Teacher in recommending changes to improve the childcare program, and acts as the liaison between the Center Staff and the community of parents. 

    Compensation: $22/hr to $24/hr

     

    Essential Functions and Specific Duties:  

    • Facilitate and nurture the development of each child while providing responsive care based on individual needs, temperaments, abilities, and cultures which includes but is not limited to feeding, toileting/diapering and medication administration.
    • Performs as an educator for assigned children in the classroom setting throughout the child’s enrollment in the program.  Plans, implements, and supervises a developmentally appropriate and inclusive educational curriculum for young children.
    • Maintains accepted standards of order, cleanliness and sanitation and supplies inventory of assigned classroom, program facilities, and collaborates with members of facility and/or security departments when needed.
    • Work cooperatively with other staff members, accepts supervision, and helps promote positive and harmonious communication in all aspects of center operation. Guides staff in teaching practices and appropriate developmental expectations using the centers’ learning philosophy. Provides feedback to the Director regarding staff interactions in the classroom if any concerns arise.
    • Actively collaborates with parents in an ongoing and positive manner to support each child’s developmental needs. Solicits and responds to the families’ requests and suggestions and communicates them to appropriate program staff. Conduct parent-teacher conferences for all primary care children as well as assist other teachers with their primary care children when needed.
    • Ensure Center’s physical facilities comply with all applicable laws and regulations and are a safe and appropriate environment for children.
    • Implement program food service (snack preparation) according to proper food handling guidelines and procedures, train and assist staff on proper food handling as needed.
    • Perform with a team approach, other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications:

    • High School diploma required.  Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
    • 12 units in Child Development or Early Childhood education required, Master Teacher or Site Supervisor permit preferred.
    • At least 3 units in infant toddler coursework required (or willing to take the course within 6 months of hire).
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in a childcare center required.
    • Some supervisory or lead teacher experience required.
    • Proficiency with Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) particularly for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
    • Pediatrics CPR/AED/First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire.
    • Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and aptitude for learning new technology.
