    Job Title: Support Teacher (Full-Time)

    Program:  Preschool

    Reports to: Preschool Director

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

    Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm (flexible as needed for program)

    Hourly Rate:  $21.84 - $30.84

    Position Summary

    The Preschool Support Teacher position was established for the purpose(s) of providing a variety of

    duties in support of the Preschool program at YCIS Silicon Valley. The Support Teacher will provide

    support to the Preschool Director, Preschool Coordinator(s), Lead Teachers, and Teaching Team in the

    efficient support, operation, and maintenance of the preschool campus and the preschool program.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    ● Provide on-call support to the program on a daily basis and work as a substitute teacher when Teachers, Assistant teachers, and/or After-School Teachers are absent.

    ● Assist the office in preparing daily snacks if needed.

    ● Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the preschool program and supporting the implementation of the mission and vision of YCIS.

    ● Maintain the confidentiality of staff, parent, child, client, community, and school information included in files, conversations, meetings, correspondence, or any other source.

    ● Provide first aid and complete all required reporting and documentation on accidents and injuries.

    ● Available for occasional weekend and evening events, including Mini Camp.

    ● Participate in and prepare for school events as required; for example, the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival and Chinese New Year Event.

    ● Ensure the preschool facility, rooms, and play areas are maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.

    ● Alert to and understand health and safety matters, ensuring compliance with all state licensing requirements.

    ● Support the Preschool Coordinator and Lead Teachers with tasks related to the operation of the preschool front office, resource room, and library, including but not limited to, organizing supplies and resources, maintaining and reporting damaged equipment, and creating a welcoming environment for visitors.

    ● Create a welcoming, safe, and nurturing learning environment.

    Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Requirements:

    ● English or Mandarin native speaker with a strong set of communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively in English (written & spoken).

    ● Understanding of and adherence to the Yew Chung educational philosophies and approach to early childhood education.

    ● Taking initiative and working independently with minimal supervision; able to prioritize among multiple responsibilities.

    ● A strong commitment to teamwork and to developing and maintaining cooperative and collaborative working relationships with colleagues as well as parents.

    ● A warm and friendly personality; patient and respectful; sensitive to the feelings and needs of others; able to adapt and be flexible.

    ● Good communication and problem-solving skills, as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude.

    ● Computer skills with proven ability to produce student assessment and learning documentation. Comfortable with using various computer and tablet programs and applications such as Google Suite (docs; slides).


    Education and Experience Requirements:

    ● Experience in a preschool environment.

    ● At least 12 ECE (Early Childhood Education) units, AA or higher degree in Child

    Development, Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field preferred.

    ● Child Development Permit from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing preferred.

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

    • Frequently walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear
    • Often required to stand and sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat or crawl
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40-pound child
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

    Certificates, Licenses, Clearances, Testing and/or Bonding Required:

    ● This organization requires a successful candidate to provide it with employment eligibility and verification of a legal right to work in the United States in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

    ● Must complete all background requirements prior to employment: live scan, acknowledgment of child abuse reporting responsibility, criminal record statement, and receive satisfactory clearance from all licensing and investigative authorities.

    ● Must pass a health screening and have required immunizations to work in the classroom (MMR, TB test or chest x-ray, TDap, Influenza).

    ● A valid certificate in CPR and pediatric first aid is preferred.

    ● A Child Development Permit from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is preferred.
