    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Pinewood is seeking a staff accountant to work 4 days (approximately 32 hours) per week. The Staff Accountant is responsible for recording daily journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, analyzing variances and assisting in the preparation for the annual audit and tax return filings.  We are looking for someone who is motivated, has strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. This role will report to the Director of Finance.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist in month-end close activities, including reconciliations of accounts such as cash, investments, pre-paids, fixed assets, leases, accrued expenses and inter-company receivables/payables
    • Process student billings, including summer school, club registration and other incidental billings
    • Assist in preparation of tuition billing and record tuition receipts
    • Record monthly investment activity
    • Assist in preparation of annual audit schedules
    • Assist in preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
    • Assist in preparation of tax schedules required for annual tax return filings
    • Variance analyses
    • Backup for accounts payable
    • Assist in other ad-hoc projects and duties as needed

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    •  Ability to spend long hours sitting, using computers and office equipment
    • Regularly sits, walks, talks and hear
    • Be able to lift up to 20 lbs.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is strongly desired; Associate’s degree with solid relevant experience will be considered
    • Two plus years of relevant experience
    • A thorough understanding of GAAP and internal controls
    • Strong proficiency in spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets)
    • Experience with cloud-based accounting software; experience with Veracross is a plus
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), attention to detail and ability to multitask
    • High level of ethics, integrity, transparency and trustworthiness
    • Experience working at an independent school is a plus

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

    Salary range is $70,000 - $90,000 annually. This role will work 4 days (approximately 32 hours) per week with a hybrid work schedule (2-3 days remote work is a possibility).
