Job Description for Long-Term Substitute Elementary School Teacher
Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Transitional Kindergarten Long-Term Substitute Elementary School Teacher. In this role, you will play a crucial part in fostering a positive and engaging learning environment, adhering to the Yew Chung Education Philosophy and Objectives. This position is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of our students while covering a maternity leave absence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Management:
- Collaborate with fellow staff members to establish instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with school requirements.
- Develop and implement project-based learning lessons following school guidelines, incorporating accommodations for diverse student learning styles.
- Utilize project-based learning strategies, inquiry-based activities, and technology to accommodate various learning styles.
Student Management:
- Cultivate a classroom environment conducive to learning, considering the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Provide timely progress reports following Yew Chung Education Foundation and school guidelines.
- Address and resolve parent/student concerns promptly.
- Uphold positive behavior management practices in alignment with the Student Handbook.
Management of Administrative, Fiscal, and/or Facilities Functions:
- Develop and submit lesson plans as required.
- Collaborate with school and administrative staff to meet the needs of all student groups.
- Participate in campus events and extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Assist in the selection of instructional materials.
- Provide cover for teachers and support other classes during planning periods.
Organization Improvement:
- Support the mission and vision of the Foundation and school.
- Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and collaborate on implementing improvements.
Other Responsibilities:
- Administer first aid and complete required reporting on accidents and injuries.
- Maintain regular, open communication with parents.
- Stay informed of current educational practices through ongoing professional development.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (Master’s degree preferred) from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Teacher Credential or ability to acquire a valid teaching credential.
- Required endorsements or training for the assigned subject and level.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- The ability to meet the physical demands of the job with reasonable accommodations.
Certificates, Licenses, Clearances, Testing, and/or Bonding Required:
- Successful completion of background requirements, including live scan and acknowledgment of child abuse reporting responsibility.
- Health screening and TB skin test or chest x-ray.
- Valid certificate in CPR and pediatric first aid preferred.
