    Job Description

    The Long-Term Substitute Middle School History Teacher will oversee the development and delivery of the 6th grade History curriculum, focused on Ancient Civilizations, and 8th Grade Advanced Topics Art History curriculum. The teacher will partner with other History teachers to support a comprehensive, effective, and cohesive 6-8th grade History curriculum.

    The ideal candidate will have experience working with middle school students and appreciate the opportunity to work with this age-group that is experiencing lots of transitions in three short years. They will also be a strong collaborator with other teachers and community members, have a strong commitment to meeting the learning needs of each student, a teaching style that supports differentiated instruction, and an interest in building a community. 

    As a long-term substitute teacher in the Middle School, this individual will also serve as a co-advisor, and participate in various student and community activities including the Outdoor Education Trip in April. Additional responsibilities include active involvement in collaborative teacher meetings and supervisory duties.

    Essential Requirements

               Bachelor’s degree in History or related field

               Classroom teaching experience in History, especially at the middle school level

               Natural rapport with children and strong classroom management skills

               Excellent written and oral communication skills

     

    Desired Qualifications and Traits

               Masters’ Degree in specific subject area, Masters in Education, or teaching credential

               Experience with project-based learning and interdisciplinary teaching

               A growth mindset and flexibility to adapt

    Schedule and Hours

    This is a substitute/leave replacement position beginning January 3, 2024 and tentatively ending June 10, 2024. Regular hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays).

    Pay Scale:

    The anticipated salary range the school reasonably expects to pay candidates for the full-time position of Long-Term Substitute Middle School History Teacher $62,902 to $81,802, depending on factors such as experience and education.
