    Job Description and Desired Qualifications

    The K-8  Substitute Teacher/After School Activity Leader is a dynamic and flexible educator who has experience in executing lesson plans and teaching across grades. The ideal candidate is committed to academic excellence and diversity and understands the social and emotional growth and development of children in Kindergarten - 8th grades. This individual will have a strong commitment to meeting the learning needs of each student, a teaching style that supports differentiation of instruction, a collaborative spirit, and an interest in building community in and outside of the classroom. Responsibilities as a substitute teacher will include teaching language arts, math, history, P.E., music, art, garden, cooking, Spanish, library, and/or science. Average class size is 18-22 students.  Activity leader duties include planning, developing and facilitating creative clubs and recreational activities for participants in our after school day care program.

     

    This is a full-time, non-exempt 10–month position, 8:15 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., beginning in August 2023.  Summer work may be available in 2024 for summer camp activities. Perform all other assigned school-related duties (e.g. recess supervision, meetings, etc.)

    Essential Requirements:

    -          Bachelor of Arts

    -          Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience and/or experience working with children in an educational setting

    -          Candidate must have effective classroom management skills

    -          Candidate has strong communication and organizational skills and is motivated to work with a strong existing team

    -          Candidate must have an understanding of the social and emotional needs of K-8 students

    Desired Qualifications and Traits:

    -          Teaching credential

    -          Integration of technology in curriculum

    Pay Scale:

    The anticipated salary range the school reasonably expects to pay candidates for the position of K-8 Long Term Substitute Teacher/Activity Leader is $27 to $31 per hour, depending on factors such as experience and education.
