    About The Bishop’s School 

    Founded in 1909 and affiliated with the Episcopal Church, The Bishop’s School is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory day school for 800 students in grades six through twelve located on a historic campus in the heart of La Jolla, just 10 miles north of downtown San Diego. With a student-teacher ratio of approximately 9 to 1, Bishop’s is known for academic, artistic, and athletic excellence while celebrating character development, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Last year’s applicant pool drew from 72 zip codes and 168 middle and high schools throughout San Diego County and beyond.     Base Compensation Based on Experience: $85,000 - $95,000

    Summary Description:

    Bishop’s Major Gift Officer (MGO) works collaboratively with the School’s Senior Director of Major and Principal Gifts (Senior Director), and other colleagues across the Advancement department and the School. This position is responsible for the cultivation and growth of their major gift pipeline and will provide fundraising support with major fundraising campaigns. The MGO will not only be responsible for managing relationships with high-level donors, but acclimating themselves to the Bishop’s community, building strong partnerships with faculty and staff to help promote objectives that are beneficial to the School.

    This person will identify and pursue new donors and funding opportunities for The Bishop’s School. The MGO will manage their own portfolio (100-125 prospects), solicit donors with the capacity to make a major gift ($25,000+) and secure event sponsorships.  Top candidates will be donor-centric, able to match philanthropic interests of donors with funding needs for the School through individualized donor plans.

    Essential Functions and Specific Duties:  

    • Works collaboratively with the Senior Director to achieve aspirational goals for major giving, while maintaining strong solicitation, engagement, and stewardship practices for key constituencies. 
    • Develops and executes individualized cultivation plans, emphasizing face-to-face visits, with their portfolio.  Maintains a consistent schedule of 10-15 donor visits per month.
    • Participates in regular prospect management meetings, ensuring that a proper moves management process is in place to move prospective donors in and out of their portfolio.
    • Files timely prospect reports in Raiser’s Edge documenting contacts, solicitations and meetings.
    • Attends key events to interact with prospects and donors, maintaining a high level of professionalism and living out the values of the School.
    • Perform with a team approach, other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree required.  
    • At least 5 years of proven fundraising experience, with at least 3 years of experience in making personalized solicitations and closing gifts.
    • Experience managing an individual portfolio of prospects and donors.
    • Campaign experience preferred.
    • Experience with a high-level of customer service and working and communicating with high-capacity, busy individuals.
    • Must be/remain up to date on giving trends.
    • Working knowledge of social media theories, concepts, and platforms.
    • Intermediate proficiency with Google Workspace and aptitude for learning new technology.
    • Raiser’s Edge and/or other fundraising software.
    • Proficiency in a second language, particularly Mandarin or Spanish, is desired.
