    School Profile

    Ventana School, a Reggio-inspired Preschool (2 yrs-5 yrs) and Elementary School (K-5) located on a beautiful campus in Silicon Valley, is hiring a Director of Finance & Business Administration. Our programs serve up to 180 children and reflect our belief that children learn through play, observation, and investigation. We value each child as an individual and a competent learner, full of ideas and eager to learn. The employee models the Ventana Values that guide the School. Ventana School (“VS”) is an outreach project of Christ Episcopal Church of Los Altos (“CCLA”) but is not a religious school. 

    Description of Position

    In close collaboration with the Head of School and Rector, and the joint parish-school finance committee, the Director of Finance and Business Administration oversees the financial and operational health of the school and parish by preparing and monitoring budgets, advising school leadership, and maintaining a comprehensive picture of the financial health of the institution as a whole. Additionally, this person oversees other critical aspects of the school, including the implementation of best business practices and systems. His/her/their responsibilities are diverse, requiring accounting knowledge and skill, attention to detail, strong administrative abilities, and strategic insight. 

    Summary of Duties


    • Working with the Head of School and Rector, produces budgets for both Ventana School and Christ Church for their submission to the Boards

    • Monitors accounts to ensure compliance with the budgets, producing monthly reports for the Finance Committee and Boards and additional summaries as requested by the Head of School and Rector

    • Oversees cash, investment and asset management, monitoring the monthly cash flow of both school and parish

    • Keeps Ventana School and Christ Church accounts updated

    • Oversees the Financial Services Coordinator in processing accounts payable and tracking accounts receivable

    • Liaises with the Diocese to ensure bi-monthly payroll is processed for all employees

    • Oversees billing and donations through multiple platforms 

    • Monitors the depreciation of fixed assets and makes recommendations as to upgrades and replacements  

    • Manages the Financial Aid process for Ventana School

    • Reviews and approves vendor contracts 

    • Supports the Development Director and the Development Committee of the Board

    • Creates financial documentation and contracts for Ventana School student enrollment 

    • Supervises the annual audit of both school and parish financial statements 

    Policies and Procedures

    • Collaborates with the Treasurer and Finance Committee to establish and implement policies and procedures related to the financial operations of the school and parish

    • Advises Head of School, Rector, and Boards on the development of financial plans and projections

    • Builds models that allow for multiple-scenario projections 

    • Manages and monitors financial operations to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures

    • Ensures compliance with all civil and canonical regulations that affect the financial management of the school and parish

    • Oversees and revises the spend and sign policy for the school and parish

    Business Operations

    • Manages the Financial Services Coordinator

    • Reviews contracts and, as necessary, negotiates terms

    • Supports the purchasing, tracking, and maintenance of school technology

    • Researches and implements appropriate systems and processes that support the efficient operations of the school

    • Engages in ongoing professional development to ensure efficient utilization of financial software systems

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a focus in accounting or business; CPA, Master’s in Accounting, or MBA preferred.

    • Experience with Blackbaud systems, QuickBooks, Google Suite, Benevity, and other financial management platforms

    • Exhibits excellent time management skills, initiative, and the ability to produce and implement financial policies and procedures

    • Experience in an educational setting, or other non-profit, is an asset

    • Capable of managing multiple overlapping deadlines

    • Demonstrates excellent and effective written and verbal communications with an array of constituents, including directors, staff, parents, trustees, vendors, and volunteers 

    Salary and benefits 

    Benefits include full family medical and dental insurance, vacation, sick, and holiday leave, and limited employer matching (5% base + 4% match) to a 403(b) pension program. The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $150,000, commensurate with education and experience. The start date for the position is flexible. This is an on-campus role.
