Breakout sessions:

School Adversary Workshop
Presenter: Peter Crabbe, Chameleon Associates
10:00 am - 10:50 am

In this unique workshop led by Chameleon Associates, an international security consulting firm that specializes in school security, you and others in your group will plan an attack against a school. The goal of this workshop is for you to begin thinking like the enemy so that you can assess your school through the eyes of the adversary. Adversarial based security is the best way to secure your school, but it requires you to learn how to think like the enemy. Once you think that way, you will be able to imagine the different kinds of attacks that could happen against your school, recognize them early, and set your security team to defend against them. The goal: mitigate the attack before it ever takes place.

The Nuts and Bolts of Organics Recycling for Independent Schools
Presenter: Michelle Cevallos, CalRecycle
11:00 am - 11:30 am

Learn about the requirements of California’s Climate Pollutant Reduction Strategy (SB 1383) regulation and hear about best management practices to be in compliance. Topics will include organic waste recycling, edible food recovery requirements, hauler relationships and tips to building a successful organic diversion program.

Retention, Engagement, and Productivity in FM
Presenter: Tray Hines, HBM
11:45 am - 12:15 pm

More than ever, school Facilities Management departments are facing critical retention and promotion issues. High turnover, lack of structure, and a void of FM training for school buildings leave a persistent challenge for administrators to retain and promote effective employees. Through development, continued engagement, and structure, FM teams can retain talent and effective staff members.

The Facility Audit: Effective Operations
Presenters: The Building Solutions Team
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Are you considering performing a Campus Facility Audit? Wondering what are the benefits and what’s involved? This session will introduce the facility audit process and present recent experience with peer schools. Hear what prompted them to seek a facility audit, the challenges and lessons learned resulting from the audit process, and how they have elevated their facility management practices as a result of the process and its findings.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the reasons why and the value of a facility audit
  • Understand how a facility audit is initiated and completed
  • Hear about challenges and lessons learned that may be applied in one’s own campus setting
