    Position Overview:

    Under the direction of the Associate Head of Finance and Administration, the Director of Summer School and Enrichment Programs oversees the School’s robust Summer School Program. Marlborough’s highly-regarded five-week Summer School Program enrolls over 500 students in grades K-8 and employs nearly 200 faculty and student workers.  The program draws families from the immediate neighborhood and surrounding Los Angeles area. The program is an important financial component of the School’s operating budget.

    Additionally, and in partnership with the Associate Head of Academics and the Director of Enrollment Management, the Director provides strategic direction and oversight with regard to after-school and weekend programming, including programs that impact academic school year admissions.

    The ideal candidate will have experience in budget and planning, marketing, strategic planning, curricular development, and program oversight. S/he should be a creative thinker who possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills.  The ideal candidate is also an effective problem-solver and someone who can think and function entrepreneurially within a non-profit setting.

    Essential Job Functions:

    Summer School Program Administration

    • Oversees and manages all aspects of the School’s Summer School Program, including course offerings, scheduling, enrollment, personnel management, and client communications.
    • Oversees the hiring, training, and management of all summer school employees, which include 75+ faculty and 90+ student workers.
    • Prepares and manages the Summer School operating budget to ensure that appropriate income and expense targets are met.
    • Coordinates with facilities personnel with respect to space planning and other campus needs related to the Program.
    • Attends professional conferences and workshops to help strengthen curricular development and overall program development.
    • Oversees marketing and communications efforts, including daily communications with summer school families and summer school personnel.
    • Identifies and implements additional revenue-generating opportunities related to the Summer School program and that align with the School’s overall mission.
    • Works closely with the Director of Enrollment Management and the Associate Head of Academics as needed.

    Enrichment Program Administration

    • Identifies opportunities for extended/after-school programming throughout the school year and during the summer.
    • In collaboration with the Associate Head of Academics, identifies curricular programming opportunities that align with the School’s academic school year program.
    • In collaboration with the Athletics Director, strengthens relationships with club organizations as a way to market the School’s athletics programs and strengthen overall brand image.
    • Identifies and implements additional revenue-generating opportunities as part of overall program enrichment.  
    • While being mindful of City and neighborhood constraints, develops strategic partnerships with public and private organizations and programs to enhance civic engagement and optimize campus use during non-regular school hours.

    Other Administrative Duties

    • Partners with the Director of Academic and Administrative Technology in developing educational technology opportunities for Summer School and after-school programming.  
    • Works collaboratively with Senior Team members on issues relating to advancement, student wellness, communications, and other key areas impacting Summer School and after-school programming.  
    • Works collaboratively with area managers (facilities, human resources, business operations, auxiliary services) as a strategic partner with risk management and general operational needs.

    Essential Skills and Abilities:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience working in curriculum development for a Summer School program or related academic program.
    • Experience as a leader with strong interpersonal skills and a proven record of collaboration and effective management.
    • Experience hiring, training, and overseeing a large number of employees, including student employees.
    • Teaching experience strongly preferred.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
