The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a History substitute teacher. This position entails teaching three sections of our 11th grade U.S. and the World course. We need coverage from January 22 through February 14 and May 11 through May 29.
Qualifications and desired characteristics:
● Bachelor’s or graduate degree in History
● Experience teaching history
● Passion for working with high school students
● Strong organizational and communication skills
● Patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor
● A strong interest in working in a multicultural community
The College Prep history program is unique, innovative and rigorous, and includes three required year-long courses: Asian Worlds (in the 9th grade), The Atlantic World (in the 10th grade), and The U.S. and the World, taken in the junior year. History teachers work closely with one another, honing and reshaping the curriculum. Beyond required courses, the vast majority of our students choose to take one or more history electives their senior year. These include Constitutional Law, Ancient and Medieval, and Linguistics. History Section sizes average 16 students. Students use both texts and teacher-produced material in classes.
