    Position Summary

    In support of the School’s mission, the Chief Financial & Operations Officer’s (CF&OO) primary responsibility is to ensure the School’s financial strength and operating efficiency.  A key member of the executive leadership team, the CF&OO is the right-hand strategic partner to the Head of School and the Board of Trustees.  Additionally, the CF&OO provides leadership and management of the day-to-day business operations to ensure proper operational controls, internal/external financial reporting and administrative human capital.  This position supports four direct reports:  Controller, Director of IT, Director of Facilities and HR Manager.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to, the following):

    ·         Serves as a strategic advisor and partner to the Head of School on fiscal, technology, facility, employment and administrative matters and the prioritization of organizational goals

    ·         Provides counsel to the Board of Trustees and supports the following Board committees: Finance, Audit, and Campus

    ·         Directs the School’s business functions, including: budgeting, financial reporting, accounting, payroll, insurance/risk management, human resources, legal/regulatory compliance, third-party service agreements and contracting

    ·         Oversees all facilities functions, including: general supervision of transportation, physical buildings/grounds, maintenance, security and emergency procedures

    ·         Ensures the School’s technology needs are integrated into the overall operations of the School, including the business office functions

    ·         Responsible for overall employee benefits program, including health plans and 403(b) plan

    ·         Plays a lead role in long-term planning and is responsible for managing the 5-Year Financial Plan

    ·         Manages School debt/capital structure, including relationship with lending bank and separate bond issuance

    ·         Partners with the Philanthropy (Development) Team to guarantee the thorough reporting of all gifts to the School

    ·         Collaborates with the Enrollment (Admissions) Team on student enrollment contracts, tuition assistance and opportunity grants

    ·         Networks with other professionals at independent schools across the region, state and nation in order to share best practices and stay abreast of relevant topics and trends

    ·         Maintains the integrity, honor, stewardship and respect for the rights of others in accordance with the School mission, practices, policies and procedure

    ·         Manages annual independent school surveys such as NAIS DASL and Index

    ·         Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    ·         Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Business Administration or related field from a four-year college or university

    ·         10+ years of finance and operations experience with a minimum of 5 years at a director/managerial level

    ·         CPA or MBA preferred

    ·         5+ years of experience in an independent school or non-profit 501(c) organization preferred

    Competency Skills

    ·         Proven success in fostering professional relationships with all levels of faculty/staff employees and community members, including Board members, students and parents

    ·         Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to articulate complex financial and personnel matters to various constituencies

    ·         Ability to maintain professionalism and act with tact and diplomacy

    ·         Knowledgeable on fund accounting and accrual-based non-profit accounting

    ·         Working knowledge of various accounting software solutions, preferably Senior Systems

    ·         Able to attend regional and national conferences that serve as a knowledge base and resource for independent schools and/or provide professional development opportunities

    ·         Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite, to include Excel and Word

    ·         Notable skills in financial planning and analysis, including development of financial and operational models

    ·         Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage numerous detailed tasks and to anticipate and meet deadlines

    ·         Ability to problem-solve independently and in a team environment

    ·         Strong negotiating skills with external resource vendors

    ·         Positive, goal-oriented team player who leads by example

    ·         Good listener who is open to alternative ways of achieving desired results

    ·         Broad knowledge of technology/information systems and human resources disciplines, including compensation and benefits, employment law, employee relations, talent management, organization development, and employee welfare (health, safety and security)
