Who we’re looking for:
SLA is seeking a faculty member for its World Languages Department with an unshakable commitment to student success, whose classroom is filled with surprise and delight
The ideal candidate:
- Is comfortable teaching students in grades six through twelve, and has a strong background in Spanish, background in additional languages is preferred
- Has expertise in differentiating instruction for a heterogeneous student body
- Has strong classroom management skills to support the linguistic and cultural needs of non-native, Heritage Spanish speakers
- Has an eagerness to design textbook-free lessons and experiences using real-world resources
- Has experience and interest in building community partnerships that support language learning and intercultural competencies
- Can connect language lessons to events in our city and the world beyond
- Has demonstrated success in meeting the needs of an ethnically, culturally, socioeconomically, and linguistically diverse student body
- Is enthusiastic about continuing professional development in language education
Responsibilities:
- Teach 5 sections of Language classes, likely across more than one grade
- Prepare course materials, both working from existing curricula and through the development of new content—prioritizing student engagement and comprehension
- Utilize a variety of assessments that promote both rigor and student success
- Participate in an after-school program (3:30–5:30 p.m.) two days a week, e.g. sports, clubs, performing arts, or academic support
- Willingness to serve as an advisor to a small group of students
- Attend regular community gatherings, including, but not limited to, meetings, chapel, lunch, field trips, and major feast days
Requirements:
- Candidates will preferably have a master’s degree in a relevant field of study, 3+ years of teaching experience, or a CA teaching credential
Compensation and Benefits:

● Anticipated compensation is $65,000 - $75,000 depending on experience.
