Job Description and Desired Qualifications
Redwood Day seeks a self-starter, visionary educator to collaborate with our Grades 6-8 Mandarin Teacher and our Spanish Teaching Team to continue growing our language program. This job will include teaching Mandarin to students in grades K-5 .The position may also include teaching an after-school Mandarin enrichment course for native speakers, an 8th grade elective course, or another mutually agreed upon activity or course.
The successful candidate will bring a deep passion for working with students ranging in age from five years old to ten. They will demonstrate a strong desire to collaborate with our existing Mandarin and Spanish teaching team to align expectations and learning outcomes. The successful candidate will also have a strong understanding of curriculum development in second language instruction, including a familiarity with the ACTFL standards for second language acquisition. Additional responsibilities include supervisory duties, active involvement in collaborative divisional meetings, and participation in various student and community activities.
This is a full-time position, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays), beginning August 2023.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor of Arts
- Minimum of three to five years’ Mandarin teaching experience
- A natural rapport with children; understanding of developmental needs of 5-14 year olds
- Familiarity with the ACTFL Standards for second language acquisition; ability to build a curriculum from the ground up
- Highly effective classroom management skills
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated commitment to creating diverse, equitable and inclusive learning environments for all students
Desired Qualifications and Traits:
- Teaching credential or Masters’ Degree in Education (preferred)
- Experience with project-based learning and interdisciplinary teaching
- Experience and familiarity with comprehensible input strategies and learning activities
- A growth mindset and flexibility to adapt
Pay Scale:
The anticipated salary range the school reasonably expects to pay candidates for the full-time position of K-5 Mandarin Teacher is $66,352 to $103,916, depending on factors such as experience and education.
