Cal-ISBOA is hosting a virtual forum to discuss the increasing impact of safety and security on our communities.  From emergency planning to cyber security and physical security on campus, safety and security touches all aspects of our schools' operations.  We'll share current topics, best practices, and solutions around managing and maximizing our students' and employees' safety and well-being.

Proactive School Security and the Active Shooter Event

Every school in America is addressing the active shooter problem. This session will demystify the phenomenon, give you facts to de-escalate the fear in your community, and give you real life tools to save your life in an active shooter event.

Preventative Maintenance and Campus Safety

Building and structure safety threats go quietly unnoticed due to the pressure and demand of the day-to-day. In this presentation, we'll take an in-depth look at the role of regular preventative maintenance, inspections, proper training, and quality control in personal safety.

Best Practices for Emergency Management

During this interactive session, we will help school leaders rebuild their confidence in emergency management, crisis leadership, and impactful drills.

We will focus on:

  • What we've learned in the last few years - from COVID and recent school shootings - and how it impacts our Emergency Management Planning
  • What steps can we take now to plan for the 2023-24 school year (fire season, smoke days, earthquakes, etc.)
  • Respecting the emotional needs of students, faculty, and families during drill
  • Effective debrief strategies that build on progress and plan for improvements

Independent Schools- Enhancing Good Cyber Hygiene Practices

Cyber incidents continue to impact Independent school security and protection of key assets, including student information. We'll explain how and why attackers are targeting schools. Identify common cyber hygiene weaknesses. Understand the implications of a data breach. And, learn about implementing better cyber hygiene practices.
