    de Toledo High School, a vibrant and innovative independent high school, is looking for a dynamic Director of College Counseling and Dean of Academic Advisement to lead the college search process for both students and parents.  The Director of College Counseling and Dean of Academic Advisement reports to the Principal and manages three staff members.  Preferred start date is mid-May to June.

    Broad Function: The Director/Dean reports directly to the principal. They manage the department staff which consists of 2 Associate Directors of College Counseling and an Administrative Assistant. 

    Primary responsibilities:

    • Understand and be able to articulate the mission and vision of dTHS as well as the mission of the Department of College Counseling.
    • Create, sustain, and oversee the philosophical and day-to-day approach of the department and ensure fidelity to this mission by your direct reports.
    • Strategize with the principal on ways to expand and improve the department every year.
    • Meet with assigned students in grades 9-12 to individually guide them through the transition from high school to college and assist them to find the right “fit”. 
    • Educate families about colleges, gap year programs, the college admission process, trends, procedures and testing.
    • Write a letter of recommendation for each senior and submit all necessary documents including initial, mid-year and final transcripts to colleges in advance of relevant due dates. 
    • Provide academic planning and advisement throughout students’ high school programs.  
    • Coordinate visits from college admissions representatives and meet with college representatives to receive updates on their college campuses.
    • Assist students with writing essays, completing applications, and preparing for interviews.
    • Participate in group presentations to parents, students, faculty, and administration.
    • Coordinate the PSAT, SAT, ACT and AP examination administrations as needed. 
    • Oversee the submission to the UC and NCAA courses for approval.
    • Work with the Schedule Master to calendar the academic advisement meetings and course petition process.
    • Oversee the updating of the Curriculum Guide.
    • Involvement in regional and national admissions organizations such as WACAC and NACAC
    • Provide basic financial aid resources and assistance to families. 
    • Meet with college admission representatives during their visit to our campus and facilitate meetings between college representatives and our students.  Serve as a liaison with college admission offices throughout the year.
    • Keep up to date on colleges, their admission processes, admissions trends, and visit college campuses.
    • Visit colleges and universities throughout the academic year and attend national and regional college admission counseling conferences and forums.
    • Provide information on gap year programs and post-secondary options in Israel and around the world.  
    • Track college admissions data, maintaining records on students and other related statistics for internal purposes.
    • Serve as a resource for dTHS faculty who write college letters of recommendation.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Attendance and participation in the following events as requested by supervisor
      • Workshops; Departmental, staff, and faculty meetings;
      • Open Houses for student recruitment;
      • Class trips and school events;
      • Shabbatonim (including the all-school Shabbaton where all faculty are expected to participate fully Thursday through faculty dismissal on Sunday); 
      • Curriculum evenings; and
      • Certain religious services and other activities as designated by the School Administration
    • Other duties as assigned

    Ideal Candidate will have:

    • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in college counseling and/or college admissions
    • Understanding of highly selective college admission
    • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
    • Values including teamwork, organization, sense of humor, attention to detail, accountability, flexibility, and positive attitude
    • Knowledge of independent school philosophy and culture.
    • Experience with online college admissions software (CIALFO) and school software (Blackbaud) is strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrated interest in working with adolescents and their parents.
    • Ability to work well one-on-one with high school students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the de Toledo community. 
    • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills
    • Proficiency with technology and online resources
    • Willingness to work some nights and weekends
    • Bachelor’s degree required/Master’s degree preferred
