About Francis Parker School:
Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1300 students in grades JK-12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world”.
Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students.
This opening is for the 2020-2021 school year. The Lower School junior-kindergarten substitutes report to the Junior-Kindergarten Director as well as the Head of Lower School. Responsibilities include: following lesson plans provided; classroom management; preparing academic lessons (if on longer-term assignments); standing both playground and lunchroom duties as scheduled; and otherwise following established plans for the assignment.
Applicants must possess 12 post-secondary early childhood units from an accredited college or university and have 6 months of work experience in a licensed childcare center of similar program. Units must include courses in child growth and development; child, family and community; and program/curriculum. Additionally, the successful applicant will possess excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills; have an abiding interest in helping students to experience academic and social growth; be successful in working with teams; be willing to contribute to school activities outside of the assigned classroom; be skilled in working with parents; and genuinely love to work with young children and educators at the primary level.
