U.S. and World (Ancient and Modern) Teacher - Part-Time

    Kehillah Jewish High School is seeking an innovative and dedicated educator who is experienced teaching across the broad History spectrum to teach two sections (one class each) in U.S. and World History (Ancient and Modern) in the upcoming school year. The ideal candidate has a deep appreciation for educational access and neurodiversity and enjoys teaching high school students. Due to the pandemic, this position will be part of our hybrid program and the classes will be both in-person and remote. Must be adept with Zoom and blended or flipped technologies.

    This is a part-time position (.40) beginning August 1, 2020. There is a possibility of being full-time if the candidate has a strong background in the academic discipline of Modern Jewish History and the ability to teach Holocaust Studies from an intersectional perspective that addresses the diverse range of issues that continue to impact historically marginalized peoples.     Essential Functions

    • Prepare lesson plans with clear objectives that facilitate active learning.
    • Assign and evaluate classwork and exams to students; prepare required reports and communicate progress to parents and colleagues.
    • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and materials with Dean; develop scope and sequence.
    • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction; adapt new technology and teaching strategies to encourage the progress of individual students.
    • Post accurate and timely student attendance, grades, and other required records on PowerSchool/Schoology.
    • Attend and contribute to department and staff meetings, as needed.
    • Join the Student Confidential Learning Plan as needed; set notifications, implement, and actively participate.
    • Use effective in-person and virtual classroom management techniques in accordance with the policies of the school.
    • Provide timely and tactful feedback with parents regarding student progress including quarter and semester comment writing; make phone calls home for students of concern.
    • Attend and participate in departmental initiatives; support extracurricular student activities when available.
    • Actively engage in year-long Professional Growth Plan (PGP) and meet all benchmarks.
    • Guide student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, and individuality in all students.
    • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students; be flexible if sharing a classroom.

    • Show a high level of professionalism and willingness to “go the extra mile” to reach goals for students.
    • Demonstrate knowledge, implementation, and adaptability regarding relevant technology.
    • Able to apply common sense and extreme diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality in written and oral forms.
    • Promptly respond to questions of parents and co-workers while maintaining a professional demeanor.

    • Bachelor’s Degree in the subject area; postgraduate work (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred. Certification is not required.
    • At least two years teaching U.S. and World History, preferably with some online teaching experience.
    • Must be adept with Google Docs, Zoom, PowerSchool (LMS), Schoology, and blended or flipped technologies.
    • Experienced in best practices in education and pedagogy.
    • Must be able to teach in-person and online to accommodate the school’s hybrid schedule.

    • Specific abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception; ability to adjust focus, and sufficient manual dexterity to operate all departmental equipment.
    • Effectively hear and communicate with the community when teaching in-person and online.
    • Work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time. 
    • Must have a dedicated workspace for those times when teaching remotely.
    • Teach on campus in a traditional climate-controlled environment when required and occasionally outdoors.
    • Work with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and diverse contacts which may, at times, be stressful.
    • Able to travel safely and comfortably across a 50,000 sq. ft. campus.
