Oakwood School is a K-12 coeducational day school in North Hollywood, California that opened its doors in 1951. The school has remained faithful to its original mission ever since: to create a diverse educational environment where young people are partners with the adults who teach them and learn from them; where the best means of preparing students for the future is to immerse them in the present; where a healthy learning environment requires joy and humor as well as rigorous intensity; and where students’ intellectual and aesthetic depth – along with their capacity for empathy and moral courage – emerge out of authentic engagement with their teachers, one another, and the world around them.
Oakwood School seeks a dedicated full-time middle school Science teacher to develop, implement, and assess project-based science curricula for students in grades 7 and 8. Our middle school Science program affords students the opportunity to build discipline-specific and interdisciplinary inquiry-based research, writing, investigation, and laboratory skills. Seventh and eighth grade students gain foundational knowledge of general science, life science, and physical science material through skills-centered lessons that involve and foster collaboration.
The teacher plans, prepares, and executes developmentally-supportive science lessons/investigations in accordance with Oakwood’s Science department learning protocols. He or she collaborates with fellow Science teachers in planning, conducting, and assessing project-based investigations. Maintains an organized assignment calendar and gradebook in Oakwood School’s learning management system.
Regularly communicates with student-support team members: parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators.
