Oakwood School is a K-12 coeducational day school in North Hollywood, California that opened its doors in 1951. Oakwood School seeks a part-time dance teacher for the 2020-21 school year. The ideal candidate is comfortable teaching any level of dance and will be expected to work with a diversity of learners from beginning to advanced dance students. The candidate should have a strong background in choreography and proficiency in diverse dance styles and dance pedagogy. The specific teaching assignment will consist of one or two classes each trimester, and will likely include a combination of middle school and high school students.
The teacher will provide exceptional, developmentally-appropriate dance instruction to beginning, intermediate, and advanced dance students, He or she will mentor and lead the advanced dance group, ChoreoLab. Works to build the dance program at Oakwood and coordinate cross-disciplinary opportunities within the performing arts. Engages with students in a progressive, constructivist manner while ensuring sufficient mastery and development of sound artistic practices. Regularly provides feedback to students and families in person, in writing, and through the school’s learning management system. Attends department and faculty meetings, parent conferences and Open Houses and coordinates student performances.
