The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a one semester, full-time, sabbatical replacement French teacher beginning January 13, 2020. Candidates should have experience teaching French to students at the secondary or college level. Some graduate training in French is preferred. They should have a strong interest in working in a multicultural community and be eager to embrace spirited intellectual challenges in a rewarding academic environment. College Prep students are engaged and motivated learners who help create a kind, intellectual and equitable community.
Qualifications and desired characteristics:
● Bachelor’s or graduate degree in French
● Experience teaching a foreign language at either the high school or college level
● Passion for working with high school students
● Strong collaborative, organizational and communication skills
● Interest in integrating technology in ways that enhance students’ learning and growth
● Passion for lifelong learning, professional growth, leadership and community building
● Patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor
● A strong interest in working in a multicultural community
This position involves teaching 4 classes (French 1, 2, 3 and 4AP). Section sizes average fewer than 16 students. Applicants must be willing and able to teach across the curriculum and to introduce students to the cultures of the francophone world. The goals of the French program are to create full-immersion classrooms, to build towards teaching advanced listening, reading, writing and speaking skills, and to promote global perspective among students. Our French and other World Language teachers work closely with one another, honing and reshaping curriculum, assessments and assignments.
