The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks an Instrumental Music teacher interested in working with our student musicians in their mixed Beginning / Intermediate music class for the month of May, 2020. This is a .25 FTE position. Candidates should have experience teaching the usual Band instruments (mainly keyboards, guitars, drums) as well as experience teaching at the high school level.
Qualifications and desired characteristics:
● Experience teaching Instrumental Music to students at the secondary school or college level
● Strong collaborative, organizational and communication skills
● Patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor
● A strong interest in working in a multicultural community
The College Prep Arts Department is unique, innovative and rigorous. We offer a variety of courses in the Visual, Musical, Vocal, Dance and Dramatic Arts. Other than in Orchestra and Jazz Band, student enrollment in our classes is kept low in order to maximize student participation and engagement. Students are required to take a minimum of two years of arts courses for graduation; the majority takes more. The Arts Department actively cultivates and enjoys a culture of innovative collaboration and collegiality among its members and students.
