    Reports to:  Admissions Director

    Start Date: Flexible 2019-20 Academic Year

    Santa Barbara Middle School (SBMS) is currently seeking candidates for the position of Admissions Associate. S/he will report to and work in close partnership with the Admissions Director to advance the SBMS Admissions Department.  We anticipate a flexible start date that would begin during the 2019-20 academic year.

    Founded in 1976, Santa Barbara Middle School is a co-educational middle school (grades 6-9) offering students  a profound educational experience combining Academics, Creative Arts & Sports, Outdoor Education, and Community Involvement, better known here as our ‘four sides of the diamond’. Serving approximately 165 students, our educational environment facilitates academic achievement, while also bolstering all aspects of a child’s well-being. We challenge students to develop life skills in all areas, with the stability of a safe and nurturing community. Leadership, self-advocacy, creative problem solving, compassion for others, and global awareness are just a few of the traits that distinguish our graduates.     Duties/Job Responsibilities:

    • Facilitate the admission and enrollment of new students to Santa Barbara Middle School

    • Present the school to prospective students and parents and the wider community by giving tours, planning Open House events and doing community outreach

    • Handle application process and communications with candidates, parents and staff in a systematic, friendly and efficient manner

    • Schedule tours, shadow days, interviews and admissions tests with candidates and families

    • Work with other SBMS departments to develop internal and external promotional materials for Admissions to ensure strong application numbers and long range goals for admissions are met

    • Obtain required student applicant credentials from various sources

    • Create and organize student files

    • Work with Admissions Committee annually to determine acceptances for following academic year

    • Enthusiastic participation in all SBMS school activities, including the Outdoor Education Program, Deal meetings, and Electives

    • Perform other duties as assigned

    • Skilled communicator, effectively delivering the SBMS culture to students and parent applicants, and providing information to Faculty, Staff, and the Admissions Director

    • Strong ability to self-manage and produce results, showing a strong sense of follow-through

    • Ability to ‘think outside the box’, envision systems to improve efficiency without losing quality and SMBS ‘culture'

    • Collaborative mindset, able to work productively with a small, motivated team of diverse, individuals

    • Creative, curious, with personal drive to exceed expectations

    • Problem solver - able to troubleshoot and find a way to solve complex ‘big picture’ issues as they arise, can turn “lemons into lemonade”!

    • Compassionate yet firm when working with challenging dynamics

    • Ability to be discreet when handling sensitive information

    • Strong computer skills, able to create spreadsheets for analysis and  visuals for presentation, quick learner of new software/platforms

    • Outstanding organizational and planning skills,and attention to detail

    • Professional, positive, approachable, enthusiastic and fun!

    What You’ll Need:

    • BA or above in Psychology, Education, Communication or related field

    • 1-3 years of experience with independent school admissions process, academic marketing and recruitment of students

    • Experience managing a team (optional/preferred)

    • Enthusiasm  for working in a middle school setting (You enjoy children this age!)

    • Experience and demonstrated success interviewing (students and families)

    • Willingness and ability to introduce and/or learn new systems and applications

    • Physical capability and enthusiasm  to fully participate in SBMS’ Outdoor Education Program, including +/- 25 days and nights per year on trips
