    San Diego Jewish Academy seeks a full-time Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our HR Team.  Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, you will provide day-to-day HR support mainly focused on payroll and benefits administration while providing amazing employee customer service as it relates to all things HR.  If you enjoy optimizing processes, analyzing data, using MS Excel, honing in on the small details, and helping others, this role is for you!

    You will be kept busy as you:

    Payroll Administration -  

    • Perform timely and accurate full-cycle semi-monthly processing for 150+ employees, including wage garnishments, retroactive adjustments, final pay calculations, off-cycle (manual) checks, check printing and distribution, reporting, and record maintenance
    • Perform full auditing procedures pre- and post-payroll cycle, as well as periodically, creating reports to validate information based on approved and authorized changes such as: new hires, tax changes, deductions, terminations, salary changes, and other personnel action items
    • Are proactive in identifying, resolving and communicating payroll errors and discrepancies
    • Train employees and management on timekeeping and time off requests processes; monitor changes for employees and approvers
    • Ensure vacation and sick time requests are made in a consistent, timely manner by employees and balances are tracked accurately in the system
    • Provide support to employees and management regarding questions related to payroll transactions and provide payroll and/or labor related information upon request, to include Ad Hoc reporting
    • Support the budgeting and forecasting process for the Annual Budget and Adjustment Process - personnel and personnel-related costs, salary adjustments
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws

    Benefits Administration -  

    • Perform day-to-day administration of employee benefit programs – benefit system management, enrollment management, benefit changes, terminations, and documentation
    • Participate in meetings with Broker, Providers and Vendors
    • Reconcile monthly vendor invoices for payment, to include resolving any issues
    • Explain employee benefits by conducing meetings, preparing written communications, and responding to requests
    • Provide assistance to specific benefit specialties as requested including but not limited to: leaves of absence, workers’ compensation, and COBRA
    • Ensure administrative compliance with numerous federal and regulatory requirements relative to employee benefit plans

    HR Support -  

    • Conduct onboarding activities for benefits, payroll, and other new hire requirements in coordination with other key departments
    • Maintain HR files and databases
    • Participate in varied HR projects and initiatives, including standardization and continuous improvement or processes
    • Provide support with annual census needs and audits:  401k, benefits, workers’ comp, fiscal
    • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

    You bring this to the table:

    • Five (5) or more years of increasingly responsible payroll and benefits experience
    • Knowledge of local, state and federal laws as it relates to wages, payroll, taxes, and employment
    • A love for technology, MS Excel and continued learning (a growth mindset)
    • Excellent customer service – responsiveness, follow-up and follow-through
    • A high level of honesty and integrity

    A plus if you have:

    • Certified Payroll Professional designation
    • Experience with Paylocity and Enterprise Benefits
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
