de Toledo High School in West Hills, CA, is a vibrant, innovative, and academically-rigorous independent high school community, where intellectual imagination and ethical action are inseparable. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic English teacher, beginning in August 2021.
A strong candidate must be an enthusiastic, energetic, and collegial individual who wants to work with high school students in a collaborative and inclusive academic setting. The de Toledo English Department’s mission is to expose students to a wide variety of texts in an effort to promote close reading and critical thinking, and to foster an understanding of the moves writers make to create meaning. To that end, the candidate will facilitate deep inquiry and support students in seeking answers; nurture an appreciation for literature's ability to imbue a deeper understanding of the human experience; strive to expose students to impactful writing from around the world to help them develop a broad cultural literacy; aim to produce college ready writers and speakers, confident of their clarity, purpose and voice, in hopes that they may advocate for themselves and others.
