    Oakwood School is a K-12 coeducational day school in North Hollywood, California that opened its doors in 1951.  The school has remained faithful to its original mission ever since: to create a diverse educational environment where young people are partners with the adults who teach them and learn from them; where the best means of preparing students for the future is to immerse them in the present; where a healthy learning environment requires joy and humor as well as rigorous intensity; and where students’ intellectual and aesthetic depth – along with their capacity for empathy and moral courage – emerge out of authentic engagement with their teachers, one another, and the world around them.

    The Director of Alumni Relations should subscribe to our philosophy of progressive education, seek to deepen existing relationships with alumni, parents of alumni, and faculty alumni and re-engage those who have lost touch with the school.  Oakwood alumni carry with them an enduring affection for and connection with the school, and prize, especially, the school’s core values, it’s strong emphasis on personal relationships between students and teachers, and the central role of community life.  An active and engaged Alumni Council works in partnership with the Director of Alumni Relations to offer special educational programs and alumni events, and to raise money for the school.  The Alumni Association was created in the 1980’s. Key challenges are to translate deep alumni gratitude for Oakwood into greater giving to Oakwood; to create meaningful avenues for participation in the life of the school; and to take advantage of varied forms of communication (and in-person meetings) to keep alumni and alumni families informed, engaged, and committed.

    The Director of Alumni Relations provides leadership and direction for alumni and parents of alumni programming including fundraising, relationship building, program development, volunteer management; and actively involving alumni in the vital school community. The Director provides oversight for the activities of the Oakwood School Alumni Association.

    Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related experience in alumni relations and giving in an educational arena strongly preferred. Experience communicating using social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and managing and editing website platforms required. Excellent interpersonal and communication, presentation and computer skills (MS Office suite). Ability to write and edit grammatically correct professional correspondence. Flexibility to occasionally work varied hours including some evenings, early mornings and/or weekends.
